Historia
Nearing the age of forty, with an entire life already lived as a woman, Miles Borrero comes face to face with his father’s impending death. Suddenly realizing he has been stalling his transition for fear of losing his family’s love, this moment catalyzes Miles’s determination to be known as his father’s son. In Beautiful Monster, Miles chronicles his unusual childhood, by turns riveting and hilarious, in ’80s and ’90s Colombia during the Pablo Escobar years, as well as his move to Salt Lake City to pursue acting and the winding trajectory that eventually lands him in New York City.

Your Soul Needs This Book!
Revisado: 10-24-23
I was left tongue-tied by Mr. Borrero's soulful, sensual, and humorous presentation of Beautiful Monster. I'm sure the written book is amazing to read but to hear this author dance with the poetry of his story is jaw-dropping. This is not just a story of transitioning but, as the author so eloquently states, of becoming. A universal story for any person looking to find and nurture their whole self.

There are better books out there...

The narrator seems inexperienced. He runs sentences together to the point of making the transitions between paragraphs very confusing. He also pronounces every "t" which makes the performance sound quite stilted.
And the book itself is more of a day by day report about being stuck in the forest rather than a deeper examination of the hubris these young men showed in seeking out an adventure.
