This novel is worth your time
Revisado: 08-22-21
Amor Towles is quickly becoming my favorite author. His stories, so intricately woven and lyrically worded, are incredible. The Rules of Civility was surprising in its depth and meaning, and well worth the time invested. I loved getting to know the details of the ancillary characters as much as I did the protagonist. The story is well-developed and the characters are human and real in their flaws. Read this book- it is worth it!

Historia
Thaddeus Walker Bowman Owens, the backup quarterback for the Chicago Stars, is a team player, talented sideline coach, occasional male underwear model, and a man with a low tolerance for divas. Olivia Shore, international opera superstar, is a driven diva with a passion for perfection, a craving for justice, too many secrets—and a monumental grudge against the egotistical, lowbrow jock she’s been stuck with.

A surprising miss from a favorite author
Revisado: 08-13-21
I am sorry to say this book did not live up to its hype. I am generally a fan of Ms. Phillips’ work, and was especially excited for another Stars story. It is with sadness that I say this story missed the mark. I found myself disinterested in Olivia and Tad, and felt they lacked chemistry. The story was a little far-fetched (which can be forgiven in fiction if it’s done well) and did not really make sense from a conflict standpoint. I also noticed lines that read nearly word-for-word from other Stars books. All in all disappointing, and definitely not worth the credit.

A surprisingly good find.

I deeply enjoyed this book about about a woman living a fairly extraordinary life. While most of us have heard of Wallis Simpson, I would guess few have thought of who may have come before her in regards to the prince (eventually, king). Turnbull wove a story of different past events and how they impacted one another. Her characters were richly developed and well worth spending time with. This is an excellent read!

Fantastic!
Revisado: 01-23-21
I’m not sure where to begin other than to say this story was wonderful! The writing was well-done weaving between a second person and third person POV, and setting it up almost as a compendium of short stories that wove together to tell a single story of one life. The book had been on my wishlist for a year or so and I am both happy and sad for it; sad because I waited so long, and happy because I got to spend my last week with the Count. Do yourself a favor and read this novel.
