Turning the pages of her past will be the hardest thing Loveday has ever done. Can she trust those around her?

Emotional Story
Revisado: 06-22-21
I wasn’t sure how I felt about Loveday at first - but I think that’s how you’re supposed to feel. I loved the changes in the narrative based on timeline. And the story is really just a lovely one - emotional, but lovely.

Made me laugh out loud...and I was by myself.
Revisado: 11-20-17
Loved this autobiography from Al Franken. There were many times that I laughed out loud while listening to it...and I wasn’t with anyone else. He does a little jumping around. He uses “I’ll tell you more about that later” a whole lot. But since I do that too I liked it. I highly recommend.
Disclaimer: I started reading this before Al Franken’s scandal and finished after. I’m really disappointed in him but it doesn’t change my enjoyment of the book. It might for you.

Good read...until the ending
Revisado: 03-17-16
I recognize that this is the first of a trilogy, but the ending was so abrupt that I just sat in shock for a minute when the copyright details started.
The story itself was engaging, but a tad predictable. I just finished the book a few hours ago and am still trying to decide if the rest of the series is worth reading. I'm not feeling the need to know what happens next, even though the ending was abrupt.
The narration was pretty good and I do not typically like female narrators. One of the characters has an irritating affectation, but it's not enough to make me stop listening, which I have done before.
Overall, I would recommend this if you enjoy this period in history and particularly if you like reading about the differences between classes I this period. I do not recommend it if you like endings that appear to be thought through.

One of my favorite repeat listens
Revisado: 03-05-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this if you enjoy historical fiction. I would not recommend this book if you need to completely like the heroine. Personally, I like characters that have multiple sides, things that you like and things that you don't. I also would not recommend this book if you need a neat and clean ending. Unlike many of the reviewers, I don't feel like the ending was rushed (and I have leveled that review at several books - specifically, Mockingjay from the Hunger Games series and The One from the Selection series).
Which scene was your favorite?
Much of Goodwin's plot seems a surface level but one of the things I enjoyed was that I found myself hoping for a variety of endings and cheering Cora on in a few different directions. Cora is a spoiled character, but her growth in the story is excellent. One of my favorite scenes is when Cora finally stands up to the double duchess.
Any additional comments?
This book came up in recommendations because I really liked The Tea Rose series. It's set in a similar time period, but from a slightly different perspective. I also read reviews that likened it to a Downton Abbey prequel. I enjoyed this book immensely, both because of the narration and because of the complex story.
Personally, I enjoyed this book the first time I listened to it and I have listened to it again several times since. Each time I still enjoy it. I even bought a paper copy of the book to read when I don't feel like listening.

A nice follow-up to Enchanted
Revisado: 02-26-16
Katherine Kellgren is one of my favorite narrators so I listened to Enchanted, the first book in Kontis's series, because of her. I enjoyed the story, a twist on classic fairy tales. When I saw that Kontis was continuing the series, I was intrigued. The story is not as strong as that of Enchanted, but it is still a nice story and Kellgren does a good job with the narration. I would recommend this book, especially if you liked Enchanted.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

One of my favorite narrations!
Revisado: 02-22-16
Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books. I have listened to many narrations trying to find a good version. I love Rosamund Pike's deep voice and thought she did an excellent job. It was a pleasure to listen to her. I think she did justice to the story and to Jane Austen.
(Sometimes it was hard not to picture her as Jane though!)
