Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Beautiful
Revisado: 08-28-23
Pairing Andy Weir’s writing with Ray Porter’s voice is something approaching perfection. Mr. Weir is a phenomenal writer and Mr. Porter can read just about anything perfectly.

Historia
Jack Kernigan is having a bad day...a bad year...a bad life. After being booted out of MIT, he’s back in his Ohio hometown, working for the family business, facing a life of mediocrity. Then one day, out on a delivery, his truck hits...something. Something big...something furry...something invisible. And, it turns out, something not of this Earth. Fate can play funny tricks. Which is why Jack suddenly finds himself the planet’s best hope to unravel a conspiracy of galactic proportions that could spell the end of the human race.

Short and Sweet
Revisado: 03-08-23
I am used to listening to books by Mr. Taylor that become very long and well written series. My only complaint is that this one is so short a story! At the same time, it is a very well thought out short story that ties up all loose ends.
Some people have complained that it brings up political points. Yes, there are a few references to “the far right.” I myself am fairly central and do not give a damn about that. Mr. Taylor brings up modern (for 2023) events such as a world spanning disease and various climate theories. If you have problems with accepting reality, maybe read a history textbook before listening to this book.
Oh! And Mr. Porter is still the patron saint of audiobook narrators. The specific voice he uses for GUPPI comes back, maybe after a cough drop.

Historia
The enemy is coming. The enemy is already here. For years they’ve prepared, plotted, and planned. For years they’ve waited to strike from above and below. Earth is under siege. The enemy covers the landscape. Proxima is unharmed. But that’s about to change. No armies can stop this menace, and no defenses can slow the advance. We are scattered and isolated. We are ignorant and weak. No help is coming. No help remains...or does it? Old heroes will sacrifice everything. New heroes will rise.

Hard
Revisado: 06-03-22
There are parts of this story that are just hard to make it through because they straight up made me cry mid-shift. Gripping story. R. C. Bray sounds different from Jonathan Davis but that does not make it bad.
…though listening to Max laughing is jarring.
