Historia
For the lucky among us, life is what you make of it, but for Dixie Wheeler, the theme music for her story was chosen by another long ago, on the day her father butchered her mother and brothers and then slashed a knife across his own throat. Only one-year-old Dixie was left alive, infamously known as Baby Blue for the song left playing in the aftermath of the slaughter. Twenty-five years later, Dixie is still desperate for a connection to the family she can’t remember, so when her childhood home goes up for sale, Dixie sets aside all reason and moves in.

Tense As All Getout!
Revisado: 10-02-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was very tense and, at times, creepy AF. At times, I felt it was a bit disjointed and didn't know if it wanted to be a haunting story or a murder mystery. Turns out, no spoilers, it was both!

Historia
In her memoir You Could Make This Place Beautiful, poet Maggie Smith explores the disintegration of her marriage and her renewed commitment to herself in lyrical vignettes that shine, hard and clear as jewels. The book begins with one woman’s personal, particular heartbreak, but its circles widen into a reckoning with contemporary womanhood, traditional gender roles, and the power dynamics that persist even in many progressive homes.

These two are so funny. I fell in love with Leah Rudick on Instagram. And through her (obviously), I followed Andrew. Leah's "wealthy woman" character cracks me up.

The Gettys are one of the wealthiest—and most misunderstood—family dynasties. Oil magnate J. Paul Getty, once the richest man in the world, is the patriarch of an extraordinary cast of sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While some have been brought low by mental illness, drug addiction, and one of the most sensational kidnapping cases of the 20th century, many of Getty’s heirs have achieved great success.

I thought this book was interesting. The Getty family is fascinating. However, some sections were a bit long winded. And other parts felt very "puff piece".

Maja Jensen is smart, stylish, and careful, the type of woman who considers every detail when building her dream home in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The perfect house that would compensate for her failure to have a child, the house that was going to save her marriage. But when a group of reckless teenagers trash the newly built home just weeks before she moves in, her plans are shattered. Those teenagers, two months away from graduating high school, are the “good kids”—the ones on track to go to college and move on to the next stage of their privileged lives.

Boring story of First World Problems
Revisado: 10-13-22
If this story had a point, I missed it. Some kids break into a house and throw a party. House is trashed. Homeowners want answer/restitution.
yadda yadda yadda
Kids get in trouble and the house gets repaired. I stuck through until the end because I thought maybe something interesting would happen. Spoiler: Nothing interesting happens.

Historia
Three months ago, Lena Nguyen’s estranged twin sister, Cambry, drove to a remote bridge 60 miles outside of Missoula, Montana, and jumped 200 feet to her death. At least, that is the official police version. But Lena isn’t buying it. Now she’s come to that very bridge, driving her dead twin’s car and armed with a cassette recorder, determined to find out what really happened by interviewing the highway patrolman who allegedly discovered her sister’s body.

Boring and Monotonous
Revisado: 10-03-22
Maybe this story could've been better if it just didn't drag on like it did. It felt like a short story idea that got turned into a full-length novel. But, unfortunately, there wasn't enough of the original story to justify 300 pages. So, 170 pages worth of filler and banter. IDK. I didn't like it.

Di Canzio follows their story past the end of Maurice to the front lines of battle in World War I and beyond. Forster, who tried to write an epilogue about the future of his characters, was stymied by the radical change that the Great War brought to their world. With the hindsight of a century, di Canzio imagines a future for them and a past for Alec—a young villager possessed of remarkable passion and self-knowledge.
