The book "The Kind in Yellow" is about nine short stories (and a couple of poems in the middle) about a play called "The King in Yellow" that once read makes the read go insane. At least I can say that about the first three stories ( the next two only really mention the play with no real consiquence from it, while the rest do not even mention the play).

This is a book I wanted to love more than I could. Written in the late 1800's, this is a fascinating idea of a book, that ultimately falls flat on its face. The narrator does everything in their power to help the book along, but in the end the idea and even the premise of the play "The king in Yellow" withers away with each passing story, with the last story being a romantic comedy that doesn't fit in at all with the other stories describing madness and Lovecraftian horrors and concepts.

If you wish to read/listen to this book. enjoy the first five or so stories (up until the poems) and stop there. The poems are good as well, but again do not really tie into the rest of the stories.

Either a great, or terrible book. I honestly can't decide.

With an, admittedly, amazing name and interesting premise the book starts on the right foot, even before you open it. But after reading the first chapter about a characters life that does not show up again in the entire book, I was... confused to say the least. But with the equivalent of a chicken running around with its head cut off of a story, and a fantastic narrater, it's what kept me reading. Isn't that the sign of a good book. one you can't put down?

I'm very conflicted about this book. I did read it though and have been thinking about it since I finished it, all the interesting and crazy story beats, but I find it impossible to try and explain or even categorize this book. and not always in a good way.

I'll leave it as this reader, if you enjoy psychopaths doing psychopath things, with all the gore and thought processes as flavor text, and don't mind the odd chapter out like one that is literally just about a rat that has "gone through hell" to just have it run away in fear of two of the main protagonist, you are going to love this book. Everyone else should be cautious.

If it's any consolation, I will be following the author and seeing what they put out next. I've read many books. but none like this.
