Good suspense, strong female lead, great narration. Interesting perspective of a life of a criminal's family. At times maybe somewhat unebelievable story.

The story takes some time to gain speed but once it does, it makes it worth the while. It is strongly character-driven but at the same time the word building feels very much real and vivid. This is one of the most depressing post-apocalyptic stories I have read.
The narrator does an excellent job, I do not think I would have enjoyed the book so much in paperback.
Its only drawback for me were clear religious references and the belief in the divine power which I could have done without.

I love the series and the characters but this book was the least interesting to me. Maybe it was due to the lack of action, as there there seemed to be too many preparations leading to the main events at the end. Or maybe it was the developments of the relation between Kate and Curran which verged from romantic to unconvincing, and cheesy. I prefer more action, less romance. Btw, Saiman's character shows an interesting revelation!
But I am still planning to continue the series, to see how this whole story develops.

I have just recently started the series and I am so into it! But I liked the first book a bit better somehow, maybe I am not such a big fan of werewolves. Harry Dresden is a character that always gets into complicated and desperate situations, and barely manages to escape from them, and gets his ass kicked quite often. The magic system is well constructed. The main character manages to laugh at himself and the author makes fun of Harry's hero complex which makes him think that he needs to protect everything and everyone alone,
The narrator is great, as always! There are less environment sounds in the audio version in comparison to the first book that was more raw, and the same noir feel to the story. By the way, did Bob acquire the British accent in this book? It felt odd at first, but was fitting the character.

If you like supernatural romance with all the cliches with a gallant vampire and if you enjoy 'The Twilight', this book might be for you. Otherwise, there are too many good books out there. It felt as if my brain cells were slowly dying when reading this book.
I don't even know where to start: the characters are one-dimensional, the character development is overly simplified, drifting on ridiculous (and then we talked and I understood what the problem was, and promised never to do it again, and then we all hugged and laughed), the romance is cheesy (how many kissing scenes can there be?), even though the story had some potential. The book is far too long, especially considering the the awful 12-year-old kind of vocabulary and writing.
The narrator's voice and accent was a bit annoying at first, but was fitting for the story.

This looks like a very promising and entertaining urban fantasy series with a really cool, even though a bit geeky wizard, the supernatural and good humor! And the narrator is really amazing. The way he is telling the story and impersonates the characters is exceptional, and even the additional background noises and all the sighing feel so very appropriate for the character and the story.
Highly recommended!

I want more of this! This is my second read of the series, and very enjoyable indeed: the readers meet the already so-familiar characters and some new ones (Oy!!) travelling to the post-Apocalyptic city of Lud, where some of the old secrets lie..
It is amazing how King manages to weave a world such rich in detail and history with details from various places and times.
And oh, did i mention that I love Muller?

Two experienced thieves,Hadrian Blackwater and Royce Melborn, accept a way-too-easy job from a desperate person. What can possibly go wrong?
The main characters are not the typical heroes, as both dedicate themselves to a not-so-honest profession but they do have their own code of honor and justice. And there is humor too, which is a real asset to the story. What I also liked about the book is that women play quite an important role, and they are not merely circumstantial characters. Otherwise, it is quite a traditional and easily predictable fantasy book.
But I really enjoyed the first part of the book better. As you read along, the story slows down. The character development is not always convincing, and the explanations and the descriptions are sometimes too lengthy!
Overall, the story and its characters are interesting and promising, even though the pace could be more even and the explanations shorter.

As an avid listener myself, I found the idea of the story thrilling and a bit scary. What would you do if all of the sudden the story you listen to every day were about you? This traditional story displaying influences from various classic books (such as "The war of the worlds") is set in a modern context of audio books.
The begging of the story was a bit slow, with the introduction of multiple characters which were a bit cliche and superficial.
The narrator is a bit too dramatic but after getting used to his style, I quite liked it.
I found the book a bit too long, but otherwise it was an interesting read.

Great dark fantasy

‘Homeland’ starts the story of a dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden in the Forgotten Realms universe. The drow city of Menzoberranzan lies in the world of the Underdark, where the dark elves live, away from the surface dwellers and its scorching sun.
Drow society is matriarchal, militaristic, and highly religious. The noble Houses of Menzoberranzan are ruled by Matron Mothers and above all stands the Spider Queen. The Houses have a strict hierarchical power structure, and every House is trying to protect their place and go up the ladder, as the most important objective in the society is power. There are practically no limits to that, as long as you are not too open about it and do not get caught. Members of family are important only as instruments of maintaining and gaining power; they can be easily murdered or sacrificed, if only to improve the family’s social standing.
Drizzt family is ruled by Matron Mother Malice Do'Urden, with the help of her three daughters Briza, Vierna and Maya. Drizzt is one of the two living sons of the House Do'Urden. From the very beginning it is clear that he is different from the rest of his kin. Little by little he gets to learn about the drow society and his family, and feels alienated to it. The weapons master of the House Do'Urden, Zaknafein, teaches Drizzt how to fight and more, and he seems to be the only other person that is different from drow, but is he really?
Drizzt is a great warrior, intelligent, and unafraid to question the rules. He tries to do what he thinks is right, even though his understanding of ‘right’ is very different from his kind. From the birth drows are taught to hate all living beings, blindly follow the way of the drow, and worship the evil Spider Queen. It is interesting how this submission to rules and brainwashing takes place in the Academy and the society as a whole, and what parallels could be drawn to our society.
This world is very dark, and its vicious characters and their actions can be overwhelming. Drizzt is the only light that shines in this darkness, he is a highly likeable and heroic character. I can’t wait to follow his journey through the Forgotten Realms.
The only problem for me was understanding all the complicated names and being able to all the distinguish characters, but only in the very beginning.
