Historia
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Flat, dull, and disappointing.
Revisado: 11-20-23
Disappointing. The cast of characters is flat and it just doesn’t get better. I would not have finished if this were not a book club selection. It’s hard to rate the narration when I so disliked the storyline,

Historia
Olivia Colman reads E. Nesbit's classic novel. 'The Railway Children' is a masterpiece of children's fiction. It wonderfully evokes a bygone age and is packed with fun, excitement and adventure. When their father goes away unexpectedly, Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis have to move from London to a cottage in the countryside. At the local station they make friends with the porter, Perks, and spend their time waving to the passengers on the trains.

Wonderful listen!

Had not heard this story before, so well written and lovely. Olivia Colman does a lovely reading. Short and sweet and a good listen for kids on a short car ride!

I have not finished this book yet, but am SO enjoying it , I wanted to give it 5 stars so others who might be considering would jump in. 1. Narration by the author is fabulous 2. Stories are engaging 3. As a Navy brat, I loved hearing these types of stories as a kid!

Historia
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

A mic drop, powerful, surprising and delightful
Revisado: 03-28-18
The author weaves a tale that draws you in and then like quicksand refuses to let you go. The narrator is perfectly suited for this book. Some in our book club stated they had a tough time getting into the book, however I was hooked from the start, possibly loving the narrator's telling of the mundane life of Eleanor. The author reveals Eleanor's character like a Matryoshka doll, opening one to reveal another and another.
One moment you"re laughing, the next gasping, from the ridiculous to the benign to the shocking. A delight to read. Two thumbs up!
