Historia
Sofia is just a normal high school girl, worried about getting her homework done and looking cool in the lunchroom, when he shows up: a devastatingly handsome new kid, mysteriously covered in decaying bandages, and staring at her from the empty holes where his eyes should be. She thinks he's just a hipster, but is there more to this handsome stranger than meets the eye? Yes. He's a mummy. We're not really making a secret about this. The twist is he's a mummy.

Funny and clever
Revisado: 01-08-17
The problem I have with a lot of parodies is that they get pretty boring after the joke is played. This book is refreshing because it's fun throughout. The characters are likeable (I'M LOOKING AT YOU BELLA SWAN) and Sophia's dad in particular is a funny character with quirks that made me laugh out loud.
The hipster-mummy-defeats-graverobbers-in-Sophia's-mind scene was hilarious. I was pleasantly surprised by this. If you love to hate twilight, you will enjoy this book both for the joke and for the character and story work that's more interesting in 4 hours of listening than was accomplished in all 4 of he Twilight books.

Historia
Magic, adventure, mystery, and romance combine in this epic debut in which a young princess must reclaim her dead mother’s throne, learn to be a ruler - and defeat the Red Queen, a powerful and malevolent sorceress determined to destroy her. On her 19th birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa.

Slow beginning, excellent payoff
Revisado: 07-22-15
Where does The Queen of the Tearling rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's up there. It definitely starts out slow--I have seen super mixed reviews about this book, and in most cases people cite the slow beginning as a negative. Don't stop there! It picks up once she arrives in Tearling.
What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kellgren's performance is excellent. At first her accent was too much for me, but by the end of the book, I wanted to listen to more of her narration. Her voices bring the characters to life. I was pretty impressed with her range.

Excellent

This was an incredibly engaging listen and my only gripe is that it wasn't long enough! Sanderson is a master, and Angela Lin's narration is perfect.

We get it, she's in love
Revisado: 05-27-15
I love this story...even though the lead character is a little too perfect. However, a LOT of this book was frustrating. I wanted to get into the actual plot, but Kricket wouldn't shut up about "desire" coursing through her veins and blah blah blah. I don't need erotic descriptions of Kricket and Trey getting it on, and scene after scene of her and Trey vowing to love each other forever, followed by mooooore sex in more dangerous scenarios. WE GET IT. Get on with the story!

Nasal, monotone narrator

By the end I was okay with the narrator but it took me a while to get into the book with how strange the narrator sounded.

Goodish
Revisado: 04-30-15
This was a fun book. It had an interesting premise. I felt there was a lot more that could have been done with it, however. The narrator was great, but couldn't breathe much life into Penn, who just wasn't that exciting a romantic interest. I enjoyed the concept enough that I don't regret the purchase.
