Historia
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Unexpected Story
Revisado: 02-17-25
Without any expectations, it took a little while to get my head into the story, but in the end, it was really enjoyable.

Historia
Few know the warship’s actual name. But everyone has heard the rumors. The PUV James Keeling can do something no other vessel in existence can do—slip into another dimension, travel undetected, then re-emerge onto our plane and surprise enemy targets. But the thing that makes the Crypt unique also makes it a nightmare for those onboard; interdimensional travel causes hallucinations, violent behavior, and psychotic breakdowns. Keeling could be the Union’s greatest weapon, a game-changing asset that can defeat the bloodthirsty zealots of the Purist Nation, the Union’s mortal enemy.

This is a great reimagining and expansion on the original story that we waited more than a decade for. Really good baseline for the rest of the series coming. Totally worth your time.

Historia
On a planet where life is cheap, in a city built on corruption, very few things are considered holy. The Landing Site is one of them. The remains of the century-old habitat pod—which delivered the colonists to the only barely habitable place on the cruel world of Croatoan—has become a monument to the hardscrabble people who somehow survived the unsurvivable. So when blood is shed on that sacred ground, it’s seen as an attack against the entire colony.

Nothing really surprised me here. I sort of enjoyed it but the slow measured cowboy storytelling was both good and boring at the same time. There weren’t any surprises and the story was possible but not intriguing. I don’t feel like I got the full understanding of this author.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

What a great little story to fill your time between picking your next big book. Zachary did a fantastic job with his calm demeanor, and building a character doing a really tough job.

Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe. Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece.

Classic sci-fi from the modern era
Revisado: 01-20-23
I think the best part of this book is the engineering brain that wrote it and created the characters. It has some really great classic science-fiction elements, but the story and storytelling really make this a wonderful series. Looking forward to the next book.

When true branding best practices guide the development and growth of a restaurant concept, the risk of failure is reduced. In The Bullhearted Brand, I seek to lay out the foundational elements and details about creating and scaling restaurant brands. I infuse knowledge with real-world experiences throughout the book and leverage stories, fables, and folklore from around the world that use the bull as the hero.

Why Branding Matters
Revisado: 11-08-22
Make it or break it decisions are often some of the first ones we make launching a business and/or product.
Who are we?
What are we selling?
How much does it cost?
Features?
Unique differentiators?
How does it stack up against the competition?
What do we name the product and/or company?
Sometimes we launch a product or company with good people, good products and all the answers above seeming to fill the need. Yet sometimes we fail in spite of all our best efforts. What makes the biggest brands in the world successful?
Until I read this, I didn't realize how much well thought out branding is at the heart of their success. In many cases the branding - not the "name", defines everything we aspire to be and the path to follow to success.
This book is a guide to everything you should understand when embarking on building a successful brand. The advice is based on a long career in branding by the author and draws inspiration from you guessed it... proverbs and stories related to bulls that create thoughtful lessons worth hearing.
I've been around marketing for a number of years and there were lessons and truths in this book that had a great impact on me. Don't make a big commitment in a massive endeavor without getting some guidance from this book and the author first. I myself shared it with someone who really needed it and i'm glad I did.

Historia
Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Of the metaverse and life
Revisado: 08-18-22
We’ve all seen books and movies try and glorify nerd culture and history of computers, movies and video gaming but never have I seen any story provide such an immersive reverent homage to the modern history of nerd culture.
I guess the best part is that I recognized most of all references and they were interwoven in such a fashion as to bring joy to my heart.
Will Wheaton did a great job and his joy at this piece of work was evident all the way through. I’ve already been following him on Facebook long enough to know that he revels in what this book is about and I’m glad that he was given the opportunity to read this to us.
It’s hard to say something is your favorite when there are so many amazing books and stories that claimed my heart, so I definitely have to say for the moment… this is my favorite.

Google, Yelp, and TripAdvisor are often the consumer’s first impression of your brand, especially in a tourist economy. Is your business dominating your competition, or have you not addressed your search engine ranking because you “show up” if you Google your own business? Good enough, right? Not even close. What works for your competitor’s brand could be worthless for yours.

Revisado: 05-05-22
I have to commend Erik on a really great job here. Just finished the second book and looking forward to the third on audio books. His down to earth actual life experience is more valuable than what people are being taught in school about marketing.
While this is a no-frills likely single session recording, it is well organized. This fast paste two hour book is very much like a master class. Filled with basic business and more importantly solid strategies for the industry.

Revisado: 07-02-17
I've been following Scott Sigler since the original publication of this book in podcast form. Getting to experience it again was a nostalgic look back at his first book which captured me as a lifetime fan. The big bonus was the spit and polish of 10 more years of writing skill and storytelling experience.
The rewrite/update is fantastic. The performance by Ray Porter was also great. Patiently looking forward to the sequel.
