Historia
They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, to give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened. Everything the girls eat, every moment of their waking day, and everything they’re allowed to talk about is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them.

By any means necessary, these "girls" protected each other
Revisado: 02-14-25
I absolutely loved this book and cried like a baby towards the end. Everything came full circle and although the journey there was hard, it was well worth it. Sisterhood that expands past what separates us as women. Motherhood is what joins us together. I absolutely loved this book!!!

The abuse and Glory's strength to endure it
Revisado: 12-11-24
At times, I wished I could hop thru the book to defend Glory and sometimes, I was mad that she wasn't defending herself. She did what she could and I could relate...I hated that I could relate.

Trauma Galore but beautifully written and narrated
Revisado: 11-21-24
I wish that the author had a chance to finish the second installment of the Darkest Child before she passed. I absolutely adored this book. It kinda reminds me of Sula by Toni Morrison.

Really good story

I got caught up in the details of this story and shed a couple of tears during the sad moments. It was good, and the narrator did a phenomenal job as well.

Historia
This book was written to wake a sleeping America in addition to gaining a new perspective and respect for the Mothers of the Universe. In order to fully understand the hidden agendas of the dominant power structure we must backtrack and find where the initial seeds were planted in America. After my research concluded, I discovered a systematic plan that was set in full motion in the 1950s. Systematic Female Ratchet addresses the root of the behavioral concerns of targeted young and older women of color in America.

It is a short read filled to the brim with information for all every generation. Very interesting, thought provoking...it shed some light on information I didn't know and allowed me to gain perspective about the political motives behind the stereotypical "ratchet" black woman

Historia
Born in West Africa in the early 1950s, Somé was kidnapped at age four by a French Jesuit missionary to be trained as a priest, for the next 15 years enduring the harsh regimen of a seminary where his native language and tribal traditions were systematically suppressed. At age 20 he escaped, but when he returned to his Dugara people in Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) they rejected him as an outsider. To reconnect with his native culture, Somé underwent a month-long initiation into shamanism.

Revisado: 06-02-19
I absolutely adored this book. The things I discovered about myself while listening to the author's personal perspective of his own journey opened my eyes in a way that I could approach and appreciate my own spiritual journey with courage. I will read q the book for myself as well as listen again.
