Yrsillar is absolutely amazing at character creation and development. Something that is very much overlooked in this genre bloated with it's insistent emphasis on meaningless battle porn and over the top substanceless spectacle. It is truly criminal that they are not given the due they so rightly deserve, this latest addition to the Destiny Cycle is only further proof of that. Very few authors remember that their worlds are just as much a character as the MC's themselves. With Journey to the East and the rest of the stories in this book we see that Yrsillar has definitely not been so short sighted and lax in developing their world. LOL Even if we must learn that Bai mating habits are.... concerning. This book showed us just how wide and deep the lands of the Destiny Cycle truly are and i for one am immensely glad to have been given even these small glimpses. The people of this world do not revolve around the MC they are their own person and even when we do not see it the cycle continues. I am looking forward to see more from this author and hope maybe in the future there will be other glimpses into the wider world of this refreshingly unique series.

I wasn't the greatest fan of the first book, but was interested enough to give the second a try. I have honestly never seen an MC avoid being apart of an actual story so hard. A bunch of stuff is going on in the world and yet the MC wants none of that, she just wants to be free!!! So she just wonders around randomly killing things and gigling at the numbers going up.... it is ridiculous to even call this a story. Seriously what was the point of any of this? Also why do you keep saying how she was a high end lawyer, when it is so obvious she was not? She has absolutely no skill whatsoever that even the most poorly qualified lawyer would need to do their job. I think the authors just spat out the first Earth job they thought of and put not an ounce of thought beyond that. This book is a series of poorly thought out decisions that make no sense to me. to cap it all off i looked up the third book and it isn't even being narrated by a person anymore but by virtual voice? What kind of idiot not only changes narrators three books in but chooses to go with monotone robot scam? I'm done this was far more annoying that it should have been. I will be returning these books and hope i never have to hear about them again.

P.S.. God even their book page on audible is lazy and barely functional. Had to hunt down all the books on amazon first.

As a general rule, I have never really liked Villain stories or even particularly dark anti hero stories. To much edge lord crap and not nearly enough substance. So when i read the synopsis of this story i kind of expected to hate it, but i had some time i needed to kill so i figured i would listen get anoyed, quit, and then write another scathing review about another anti social sociopath who thinks playing video games makes them some kind of secret super genius or what ever. INSTEAD of all of that i got probably one of the most compelling and nuanced MC's i have come across in a VERY long time. The characters are smart, the world building is extensive, and the plot is nail bitingly intense. I was truely shocked by this story, so much so that i listened to it twice in a row just to see if i was hulicinating or something. Thankfully i was not and this story is so much better than i expected. Looking forward to seeing more.

Author doesn't actually know what a therapist is.

LMAO. THere is absolutely no way a person this oblivious to the most basic social cues was in any way a therapist. I sincerely doubt that someone this inept at social situations or self awareness had any ability whatsoever to help others navigate their own issues. Which leaves me with a single conclusion, the author has no idea what a therapist actually does and just made up a profession with no other thought than it allowed them to make dumb jokes about Trauma Suppression. Sigh, sadly not thinking about the implications of the random things authors put into their books is fairly typical for this genre, too busy trying to cram in as many anime troupe's as they can instead of thinking about if the one's they have already put in make any sense to the story.
The rest of the story is... fine, bunch of dumb jokes that aren't really funny but ultimately harmless. It's not the worst story i have come across, but it is certainly no where near a good story.

Sal's constant pettiness towards Erica was gross.

I have defended Sal in previous reviews, but in this book i lost a lot of respect for him as a character. Look i get that Erica isn't exactly easy to get along with, but she also didn't do anything wrong. Litterally everyone says that she did the right thing, right up until they realize that it was Sal whom she used, then suddenly they are all outraged and practically tripping over themselves to punish her and coddle him. Then Sal starts taunting her about taking away her powers, because as he sees it no one will go against the great Mythcrafter and Skill master. It gets pretty damn gross. also his capitalist mind set is getting rather scummy. I know the author seems to be setting up a redemption arc for her, which is great. However, to me Sal himself needs more people who will stop coddling him and using kid glvoes and actually tell him the honest truth. Cause currently Erica is the only one who isn't treating him like a precious breakable egg. Sigh, sorry for this rant, but watching a bunch of people giving obviously performative dressing downs to Erica while Sal smirks and threatens in the back ground was serisly pissing me off. Heck She even told him that she felt uncomfortable about him oggling her, which he DEFINITELY was, and his oh so mature response was to ridicule her for it. Feels like he is becoming just as arrogant and entitled as Brofy.
That rant aside it was fairly good. needed more Divinity, but all books need more of her!!!!!

Oh look a hyper wokescold wrote a book and is very disappointed in everyone..... Christ it's crap like this that makes it hard to actually talk to people about left ideas. A superHero book with almost no actual superheroing and a lot of "Do better" finger waggling at the audience. The MC is an incompetent Holier than thou drama queen, who "just doesn't get people," because of course she is. Listening to her constant whining was an act of torture. Does it ever occur to people like this that they are not the center of the universe and the world is not obligated to bend to their every whim? Sigh, i really did try but I just couldn't do it anymore. The MC is like those Youtubers who constantly bring up their list of psychological disorders. They're not supposed to be badges of pride you morons they are supposed to be things you work on to make life better for you and everyone else who has to constantly deal with your annoying ass!!!! I am done, this was NOT worth a credit. It's just another fringe lefty spouting out a bunch of special snowflake crap, who doesn't actually know what they are talking about and makes everything harder for the rest of us.

Lol sometimes when i reach the end of a Destiny Cycle book, I am filled with rage. Rage at how good progression fantasy could truly be if people would just STOP pumping out ill thought out murder hobo's wrapped in cloying blankets of anime troupes and rather gross sexual fetishes. Yrsillar shows that once you step from that mold and truly apply yourself to the craft of writing this genre is filled with staggering and beautiful possibility. Hell there was very little fighting in this book and it still had me on edge of my seat with every word. It explores so many refreshingly new, interesting, and compelling themes that are never even touched by the usual "authors" of this genre. Sigh, most of them actively avoid even the shadow of what Yrsillar explores. The stakes in this series feel so much more grand and daunting than any other book i have ever listened to in this genre. It's almost like a cultivator style Game of Thrones. It is so damn GOOD!!!!

No description of the MC, a power that is LITERALLY plot convince, author didn't even bother to do the most basic research, and the book has very choppy pacing..... I'm out.
I realize that not doing even the most basic description of the MC is for what ever reason the newest trend in story telling, but dang if it doesn't bother the crap out of me. Personal pet peeves aside, I have no interest in a story where the MC's special system breaking power is pure dumb luck. She literally has nothing to fear, i stopped listening when a demon thousands of levels above her was killed by the MC just giving up and not fighting the attack. If her stat is that powerful this early i do not see any way in which i will be able to care about this characters struggles in any meaningful way... everything will just work out because she is lucky no need for skill or cunning or any of that other nonsense. Lol even Superman had to at least think of a solution to get the outcome he wanted, Jane just.... stands there and waits for her luck to fix everything. Finally the story pacing felt really off with things that should have been mentioned much earlier like say sun burns and blisters being mentioned way down the line when the author realized that walking unprotected and bare foot through a desert probably should have more consequences then just being thirsty, sweaty and covered in uncomfortable sand. Which brings up the reason I accuse the author of not doing the most basic of research. If they had, they would realize that the MC trying to travel across a desert during the day, bare foot and only in a tank top and shorts would mean she would be very dead in only a few hours, as the sun bakes her skin evaporating all sweat desalinating her body and cooking her brain. The sand alone would be so hot during the day, it would burned the skin off her feet in hours. There is a good reason people who travel across deserts wear full body cover no luck in the world would have saved her from dying in the first day let alone a supposed week like that.. Sigh so with all that said i just do not see how this author could create a story i would actually enjoy, so i am out.

P.S. I found the system messages to be really dumb, childish and annoying.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets The Truman Show meats Superheroes meets Litrpg.....wow. This certainly is one of the most ambitious and unique stories i have ever heard of. At first it's clear lack of seriousness and zany antics seemed like this book wasn't going to be for me, and yet i kept listening and kept laughing until i realized it was nearly four in the morning and i hadn't slept for nearly 24 hours and STILL i wanted MOAR!!!
Look i get it, if you want something far more realistic this book will drive you nuts and you will hate it. However, that said if you can just let this story be what IT wants to be then you will have one heck of a good ride. It's not perfect or anything, pretty sure the stat sheet was just plain wrong for the last 1/3 of the book and it can meander a little bit at times getting distracted and completely ignoring characters that aren't immediately on screen, Still i would very much recommend it to people. Lol just as an aside i think one of the things i loved most about this book is that for all of it's whimsy and silliness it probably has one of the most realistic outcomes for what would happen if an MC tried to punch above their weight class before they were ready i.e. they get stomped....HARD. So if you want to watch a struggling child actress/heroine try and make it into the big leagues and become a real star then this book just might be for you!!!!

This book feels like it is going in a thousand different directions all at once. It is constantly switching from one thing to another, most of the time even before the paragraph ends. It is constantly back tracking on itself, and there are even a couple times when scenes that just drop off like they never existed. It is very confusing and irritating. That coupled with the MC constantly snapping and screaming at people for her own kind of dumb mistakes and i am out.... Christ why do so many authors use Andrea to try and cover up THEIR absolute CRAP!!!
