Historia
At the verge of turning 40, Peter Sagal - brainiac Harvard grad, short, bald Jew with a disposition toward heft, and a sedentary star of public radio - started running seriously. And much to his own surprise, he kept going, faster and further, running 14 marathons and logging tens of thousands of miles on roads, sidewalks, paths, and trails all over the US and the world, including the 2013 Boston Marathon, where he crossed the finish line moments before the bombings.

Witty and entertaining
Revisado: 03-13-19
This is a well-written story addressing the impact of running on Sagal's life. Peter Sagal is an excellent author, keeping the book both humorous and real. My only disappointment was that he could not get through the entire book without throwing out his political opinion. Was that really necessary? I would still recommend this book to anyone that enjoys running or just a good memoir.

Historia
In Strangers in Their Own Land, the renowned sociologist Arlie Hochschild embarks on a thought-provoking journey from her liberal hometown of Berkeley, California, deep into Louisiana bayou country - a stronghold of the conservative right. As she gets to know people who strongly oppose many of the ideas she famously champions, Hochschild nevertheless finds common ground and quickly warms to the people she meets.

Not the unbiased story I was hoping to hear
Revisado: 07-27-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Most liberals would love this book as it paints them as superior beings.
Has Strangers in Their Own Land turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I was hoping this book was based on unbiased research and would explain why both parties stand the way they do. Instead, the author portrays conservatives as inferior beings, to be pitied because they are too unintelligent to grasp how politics work. This book was the author's chance to stand on her soap box, but does not reveal any revelation about the thinking processes that create party differences.

Historia
On my 23rd birthday, my father gave me an envelope which I figured would be a gift certificate for something outdoors. But to my surprise, it was an airline ticket to Atlanta! My confusion turned into huge excitement when he said, "We are going to hike the Appalachian Trail in less than 50 days. Get ready son." At first, I thought I should just write this book like a journal of what we did. But then my father suggested that I should write it like a guidebook that can help anyone from a beginner to an advanced hiker.

Good listen for novice hikers.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The first part of the book has good tips for novice hikers. Experienced hikers may become bored with this section. The author does provide nice details about his favorite section hikes though. This section would be a good trail guide if you own the printed or Kindle version, but is not useful in the audio version. I know that I could never memorize all of the details and statistics provided while listening to an audio book, nor be able to easily locate the needed information later.
