I also like Tom Stechshullte as a narrator. This book held my interest throughout and had many twists and turns. A good western for the oater fan out there!

A couple of things that are a bit unusual about David R. Lewis books: One, I give a wide berth to books under 8 hours and rarely buy one. And B, I never, well mostly never buy a book read by the author. The exceptions to rule B are Neil Gaimon and this author, David R. Lewis. I cannot imagine his books read by anyone else. The humor is a little hokey and homespun but pleasant to listen to and the main players sure have some sand. Lewis' books are westerns so if you are agin oaters, they may not suit you. But if you like them, then you have struck gold here. I have bought all three of his books and though they are stand alone reads, there is a timeline. If you want to start at the beginning, then get this title, Dear Run Trail first, Then Nodaway Trail and finally Calico Trail. They are all worth the credit and I can't wait til my mind clouds a bit and I can enjoy them again.

A different kind of Oater

Strange book. The heroes are villans, and the tell is from their point of view. There is one brother who seems to have no conscience and one that has quite a bit of reservation about what they do. The story is basically following the Sisters brothers to California where they hope to kill a couple of guys and steal a formula for the Commodore, their beloved boss. This book had me hooked early. The conversations and philosophizing during the trip is mesmerizing, and even though these guys are cold blooded killers, you start to sympathize with the kinder one, and the kinder one is doing the tell. So you see everything from his viewpoint. This is not a normal shoot em up western as it is better. It is a journey and a story well told. It held my interest and I think you will agree if you get this book. Well worth the credit, so take a chance would be my recommendation.

Any additional comments?

This book is a hoot! First our hero could not hold a debate with the dumbest of rednecks. He sounds a little like Beaky Buzzard but not as smart. That said, he is virule, and pretty brave although he doesn't know it. As he gets deeper and deeper into the mystery he is attacked, gets in fistfights, gunfights, and no matter how how outnumbered and hopeless his situation, he comes through. I was hooked on the book as soon as I got over the dumb yokel narration. The book just kept getting better with enough mystery and danger to make it somewhat of a page turner. I have downloaded so many stinkers lately, this is a book to refresh your interest in Audio books.

This is a great detective story told in the first person like the old Bogey films. Ray Dudgeon is an old school private eye and sticks with his case. Tough gritty action and a character I liked made this a favorite for me. Five stars and worth a credit.

This is a great book and very humanistic. I don't like books about the holocaust because they make me feel bad about my fellow humans. I did like this book about ordinary Germans during a time of madness, because of the Nazi's. Well written by a man who lived in those times, and while not a page turner there was an element of fear always in the background. I could not stop listening. It also renewed my hatred of Hitler and his Nazi cronies. I also hate the new review format and refuse to use it as you can see here. This one is worth a credit.
