"Precepts of Men" - doctrines and ideas misleading the masses that lack scriptural support - are here exposed in all their beguiling hues. Never has scriptural interpretation come under such cutting scrutiny. As found in Jewish and Mormon primary sources - principally the Bible and Book of Mormon - God's pristine Word reveals itself in layer after layer of glorious truth.

A unique take on what Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon mean. Definitely encouraged to study more in the chapters to understand more fully.

Amazing story of a Muslim's inspiring search for truth.

I loved this story of Nabeel's difficult but persistent search for truth. If only US Christians (including myself) could be as honest, committed, and brave.

Historia
Acclaimed author of biographical and historical fiction Irving Stone turns his magnificent talent to telling America's most colorful and exciting story - the opening of the Far West. Men to Match My Mountains is a true historical masterpiece, an unforgettable pageant of giants - men like John Sutter, whose dream of paradise was shattered by the California Gold Rush; Brigham Young and the Mormons, who tamed the desert with Bible texts; and the silver kings and the miners, who developed Nevada's Comstock Lode and settled the Rockies.

We stand on the shoulders of giants!
Revisado: 01-11-24
What a great story about the unfolding of the American West! I generally loved the book but found Irving Stone may have had a negative bias against the "Mormons" or "Church of the Latter-day Saints" as he calls the church.. The reason I say this is that I found the fact he never referenced the full name of the church which includes "Jesus Christ". Not once in hundreds of references - which is odd...
I think "westerners" as we call ourselves are generally ignorant about the history of western migration and how towns, cities as well as states came into being. This is a great historical walk for those interested in the history of western expansion and the development of some unique aspects of Western US culture - namely the willingness to take risks.

Rapp is determined to eliminate this shadowy figure, but the CIA’s trap fails. The Agency is still trying to determine what went wrong when ISIS operatives help this cyber terrorist do what he said he could — plunge the country into darkness. With no concept of how this unprecedented act was accomplished, the task of getting the power back on could take months. Perhaps even years.

disappointing
Revisado: 03-03-21
I have immensely enjoyed previous books in this series as well as other Sanderson series such as Mistborn. However THIS book was very difficult to finish...
Sanderson quadrupled down on his complex world rather than character and story development to the extreme detriment of this book's readability. He could have achieved much more with 1/4 the words and minutae of the Cosmere. I am surprised to say I am done with the Stormlight Archive as a result.

In 2012, Timothy Ballard encounters a grieving father in Haiti whose three-year-old son has been kidnapped and sold into slavery, along with thousands of children who were orphaned after an earthquake devastated the country. How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Historia
April 25, 1986 in Chernobyl was a turning point in world history. The disaster not only changed the world’s perception of nuclear power and the science that spawned it, but also our understanding of the planet’s delicate ecology. With the images of the abandoned homes and playgrounds beyond the barbed wire of the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, the rusting graveyards of contaminated trucks and helicopters, the farmland lashed with black rain, the event fixed for all time the notion of radiation as an invisible killer.

I enjoyed hearing about the disaster which occurred during my senior year of high school through the lens of 30 + years. A tragic story about how communism and corruption created an environment where a disaster was inevitable.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Not sure how much is fiction - but some is...
Revisado: 09-06-18
This is a story about a dysfunctional family. As a lifelong Mormon who attended BYU I have similar background absent the crazy family living off the grid. The attitudes towards women she describes a classmate having at BYU may perhaps exist - but is rare. As a father of four girls I'm sensitive to this issue - and my experience at BYU (including a graduate degree in business with a class with 1/3 women) would indicate that not only members but also the church encourage women to reach their highest potential including professional degrees and careers.
