Silly

This story was just silly - if looking for a cute holiday story, this might be ok, but I just found it too cheesy.

This was a sweet, well-written story - not angsty or full of excitement, but with solid likable characters and with a positive outlook.

enjoyed it
Revisado: 03-07-24
Enjoyed the characters and suspenseful story. Both characters were smart and capable - really liked this aspect of the story. There is an overreaching mystery to the series that was started in this story, so not everything was resolved - this was unexpected to me.
Listened to the audiobook:
Good narration but found Lou’s voice to be overly bouncy. This was distracting.

Historia
In his work as a defense attorney in Baltimore, Thorne has always been noble to a fault - specializing in helping young people in trouble in an attempt to atone for those he couldn't save when he himself was younger. He plays the part of the bachelor well but secretly holds a flame for his best friend and business partner, Gwyn Weaver, a woman struggling to overcome her own demons. After four years, he thinks he might finally be ready to confess his feelings, come what may. But his plans are derailed when he wakes up in bed with a dead woman, with no recollection of how he got there.

Like the startling connection she feels to Dr. Abigail Caine, a fiercely intelligent witness with a disturbing knack for making Laurel feel like she has something on her. A cute read, but very predictable. Would have liked more character development - didn’t really like Charlie, and didn’t really get to know Duke. Enjoyed the writing style.
Listened to the audiobook:
Narrator’s voices are good, but the narration is so painfully slow. Listened at 2+ speed - the narrator’s voices were rushed at this speed, but the pauses between sentences were not too long. So, there wasn’t really a good speed to listen to the book to both enjoy the narration and have the story move along.

Revisado: 07-28-22
My first Bethany Lopez book and I really enjoyed it and the writing style. Very sweet and cute story of Serena and Jed who start off wrong, but then learn more about each other. This was fine as a standalone, and made me want to read the rest of the series.
Listened to the audiobook and the narrator had a great female voice, but would be better with a different male voice to keep track of whose point of view a chapter was from. Narration too slow - sped it up a lot.
