Historia
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she describes how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset.

Hear it from the Master of mindset
Revisado: 11-17-22
We hear about mindset all the time. I was nervous there would be nothing new in this book because of it. After reading yet another book that referenced Carol Dweck, I thought I would give it a try. I am glad I did. Dweck is one of the primary researchers on the growth mindset topic and there is a lot to learn hearing it from the source instead of through 2-hand blog posts or a single chapters in a book summarizing her work.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

an account of impressive physical feats
Revisado: 03-12-22
some spoilers in the review:
This book is an account of very impressive physical feats preformed all by one man and some of what he learned along the way. It is an account of a man addicted to self-prescribed pain as an attempt to avoid his demons. It answers the question many athletes ask themselves at some point in their life - what if I devoted everything to my physical development - how far could I go. David Goggins did that - and we learn exactly what we all know as we decide not to go down that path, the sacrifice to every other area of life would be immense. David gave up his social, environmental, emotional, and mental health in a pursuit to be a peak athlete.
Throughout the book I found many morsels of wisdom and inspiration and then would be filled with confusion, pity and concern for David. this is a story of a real person though, not some Hollywood character - it is sad he was not able to apply what he learned in physical pursuits to relationships, community, mental health, etc. It is sad the soul he was always trying to take was his Dad's and he never crossed that battle but was always trying to prove that he was strong. Hollywood would finish this with a strong/healthy relationship with a wife and kids - but the reality is he left his in the past - the reality is there are some traumas and battles we just ate not able to handle on our own. Physically though the guy is an ultimate beast.

one of the top parenting books I've read
Revisado: 03-10-22
The author presents the information and then attaches it to ways we can start using it now, in our house - this was very helpful. A lot of books give you the information and tell you what good is, but they leave out the piece of making it real in a real house.
I also liked how vulnerable the author made herself. She didn't try to act like some awesome Mom but was very up front about her mistakes.

Great info, no supplemental pdf.
Revisado: 02-18-22
This book is foundational for program design. They do a great job working through exercise selection, rep/set schemes, weekly planning, rest, and more for the Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced lifter - as well as older lifters, younger, and post rehab.
The book is primarily text, especially the early chapters discussing the physiological background behind the recommendations they will later give for novice, intermediate,... because of this I am glad to have had the audio book. As the book progresses, several graphs or charts are referenced that the audiobook listener does not have access to and the author reading through a weekly schedule is cumbersome. this is my first audiobook with images referenced that does not provide the images!
I purchased the hard copy as well, probably the exact goal of editors and authors. I do believe providing ALL images and weekly schedules would be practical but I would have liked a PDF with the graphs that were referenced and that would have been easy for the audio producer.
All that said I am happy to have the audio version of this book - having it without any supplement is better than. not having it available!

narration isn't great but the story/info is
Revisado: 09-24-20
This is narrated by the authors, which can be great but in this case not. The male voice I appreciated, but the females was harsh and boring.
The message and how it is written is fantastic though. I am so glad that I listened to the book, I will definitely be adding this to my read again list (hard copy next time). I am a dad and high school teacher and found myself using strategies with my kids students and self.
