Just more extreme violence
Revisado: 09-27-24
Didn’t care for this one. Stupid macho extreme violence. And what’s with all the brand names on everything? Sounds like a fashion designer “Who are you wearing sweetie? What issue is your Glock? Oh that’s so 2002” Plus tired of same old Ray Porter or R.C.Bray narration.

The constant hyperventilating, breathing and panting was just too much to listen too. Had enough at episode 5. Can't listen to this further.

Historia
Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

Great reading
Revisado: 11-25-23
I saw the movie many decades ago when it first came out. Afterwards turned on every light in my house when I got home. Then read the book a few years later and saw it a few more times on Netflix. All equally frightening.
This reading is right up there. The author has done a fantastic job. His growling deep voice was perfect for portraying the horror of it all.
For those who say it's too slow, just increase the speed to 1.5 and it's perfect.
Definitely worth the time to listen but I recommend keeping the lights turned on.

Meh
Revisado: 09-26-22
Did I miss something here???Not sure what all the rave reviews are about. To me , as far as mysteries go, this story was very predictable and not all a surprise. Actors performances were average and nothing out of the ordinary.
The only positives were that it was short and included in freebies.

Outstanding performance!
Revisado: 08-23-22
I am SO glad Rosamund Pike is narrating and performing the current versions of this series.
I have wanted to read/listen to these books for years, but cannot bare the previous narrators. I'm definitely not a fan of Kramer's readings. His cadence drives me nuts, so sadly, I've bypassed several Jordon and Sanderson books on Audible.
Ms. Pike's performance is 5 star outstanding and I hope she continues with the whole series.
Also looking forward to more seasons on Prime video. All excellent actors in a wonderful epic story.

Just couldn't get into it
Revisado: 04-27-22
Bought it based on reviews, but just not my thing. I love Sci-fi , alien contact and world building but this was just boring and uninteresting. 12 chapters in and still all dreadful characters and not a single one worth caring about. Pointless waste of time and credit.

Historia
It’s the eve of 1953, and Aloysius Archer is in Los Angeles to ring in the New Year with an old friend, aspiring actress Liberty Callahan, when their evening is interrupted by an acquaintance of Callahan’s: Eleanor Lamb, a screenwriter in dire straits. After a series of increasingly chilling events—mysterious phone calls, the same blue car loitering outside her house, and a bloody knife left in her sink—Eleanor fears that her life is in danger, and she wants to hire Archer to look into the matter. Archer suspects that Eleanor knows more than she’s saying.

Fun listen
Revisado: 04-24-22
The story was fun. LA, 50's film industry and crime noir all wrapped up. Growing up in Culver City in the 50s, & living in a neighborhood behind RKO, lots in the story was fun to relate to. The only downside for me was the female narrator, Ms.Pressley. Too much over the top character exaggerations and the constant "ah" at the ends of her words . Even simple one syllable words such as "no" we're " no-ah". Too me it was very annoying & distracting so I'll avoid future books narrated by her.
Otherwise, it was a decent listen

Historia
On the first day of her new job, Harris is called to the scene of a brutal murder at the heart of Surrey society. A shocking crime, with a meticulous killer: the victim’s eyes have been removed and the body drained of blood, with no forensic evidence left at the scene. Her boss insists it must be the return of a killer who escaped justice several years ago, leaving a trail of bloody ritualistic killings. Harris isn’t so sure: both sets of victims have had their eyes removed, but other details are significantly different.

Nope. Can't listen. Narrator's boring monotone does nothing for the story. Maybe a good story but this one, as many, is ruined by bad narration. Again.

Historia
Half a century ago, an aberration was spotted by one of our earliest satellites, and summarily dismissed as a hardware malfunction. But it was no aberration. And no malfunction. It was an accidental glimpse of something extraordinary, and very old. Mocked for decades, the man who designed the satellite is now dead. With the system's original data firmly in the hands of former NTSB investigator Joe Rickards and anthropologist Angela Reed.

Bad narration
Revisado: 02-22-22
Half way through and trying to finish. Interesting story but the narration ruins it. Once again Scott Brick's breathy, over the top, extreme over acting distracts enormously from the story. Every sentence is over emphasized , as if the entire book is written in Caps On with exclamation marks. May have to just pass this one on.
