Historia
Dorothy A. Brown became a tax lawyer to get away from race. As a young black girl growing up in the South Bronx, she’d seen how racism limited the lives of her family and neighbors. Her law school classes offered a refreshing contrast: Tax law was about numbers, and the only color that mattered was green. But when Brown sat down to prepare tax returns for her parents, she found something strange: James and Dottie Brown, a plumber and a nurse, seemed to be paying an unusually high percentage of their income in taxes. When Brown became a law professor, she set out to understand why.

Dog Whistle Politics

Historia
In Dog Whistle Politics, Ian Haney Lopez offers a sweeping account of how politicians and plutocrats deploy veiled racial appeals to persuade white voters to support policies that favor the extremely rich yet threaten their own interests. Dog-whistle appeals generate middle-class enthusiasm for political candidates who promise to crack down on crime, curb undocumented immigration, and protect the heartland against Islamic infiltration, but ultimately vote to slash taxes for the rich.

Perfectly positioned to bridge the gap between people of color and white Americans struggling with race complexities, Oluo answers the questions listeners don't dare ask and explains the concepts that continue to elude everyday Americans.

Palatable breakdown while still not watered down
Revisado: 04-09-21
This book can be read by any person from any race. It’s meaty enough to teach the history behind racism from different angles and address important contemporary points of racial contention, understanding, anti-racist practices that should be done - but palatable enough not to make someone who is of the majority culture feel attacked and stabbed by the information being presented. I believe that this book is a good tool for jumpstarting the learning process concerning race relations - particularly for white Americans.

Historia
Lee Strobel became convinced that God was outmoded. Today science is supports the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. Darwinism has faltered in the face of facts and hard reason. Science definitely gives faith a boost as new findings emerge about the complexity of our universe. Strobel re-examines the theories that once led him away from God. You'll encounter discoveries from cosmology, DNA research, and human consciousness that present evidence in The Case for a Creator.

As Ferguson, Missouri, erupted in August 2014 and media commentators across the ideological spectrum referred to the angry response of African Americans as 'Black rage', historian Carol Anderson wrote a remarkable op-ed in the Washington Post showing that this was, instead, 'white rage at work. With so much attention on the flames,' she wrote, 'everyone had ignored the kindling.'

Historia
White Americans have long been comfortable in the assumption that they are the cultural norm. Now that notion is being challenged, as white people wrestle with what it means to be part of a fast-changing, truly multicultural nation. Facing chronic economic insecurity, a popular culture that reflects the nation's diverse cultural reality, and a future in which they will no longer constitute the majority of the population, and with a black president in the White House, whites are growing anxious.

Amazing Book!!
Revisado: 07-20-18
Full of solid statistical, historical, and ethnic research-based knowledge of American's shared history with sound suggestions for reform in our thinking and actions as people and a nation today. So many false myths and narratives were uncovered, explained, and dispelled - leading to a truthful understanding of racial realities, delusions, and experiences.
Blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians, Native Indians, and every race in between and on the outskirts can and will benefit from this book - especially if it is read with an open mind and a true desire to see the truth of racial histories, relations, and statuses for what they were and are. It brings to light the impacts occurances of the past had and still have on every ethic group in this country and the country itself today.

Read about how the mighty fall and how only those who feel the pain feel it.

Historia
You were lied to about the nature, character, and cause of the American Civil War, but that is just the start. The entire South - its people, culture, history, customs, both past and present - has been and continues to be lied about and demonized by the unholy trinity of the American establishment: academia, Hollywood, and the media.

Absolute hogwash and ignorance!
Revisado: 07-01-17
Absolute hogwash and ignorance! This literary work distorts the true essence of what happened and why.
It is a detestable, pseudo-intellectual, and lame attempt to explain away the immoral depravity of the southern desire to hold, abuse, exploit, rape, and dsstroy slaves (mentally, socially, culturally, economically, and even physically). No amount of twisted rationale to make a case for pride in all the above is right, righteous, or commendable. The southern system as it was needed to cease immediately. To this very day, the damaging reprocusions and ideologies of that southern culture as it relates to minorities, especially African-Americans, still aids, abetts, and proliferates hatred and systematic & undercover discrimination.
As for the book's literary style and the performance of the narrator apart from the content as spoken to above, it was well written. The author made his cases, though disillusioned, very clearly and concisely. I enjoyed listening to this book and getting a peek inside the mind of one who more or less defends the southern culture of old.
