What disappointed you about The Boat of a Million Years?

I can't start to tell you how bad this book is. Immortals eventually deciding to leave Earth for another star system. It was just as bad as Highlander 2 except the Immortals were not out to kill each other.

The book was far too long and very repetitive. It could have been shorter and much more to the point.

I used to love Larry Niven books but have come to realize that Niven is woefully out of date and and out of touch with reality.

This book should not be read by anybody. Greg Bear needs to take a basic college level English class.

Would you ever listen to anything by Greg Bear again?

No, Greg Bear' sentences tend to be fragmentary and lack complexity.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

It was alright. The performance was not fantastic but it was not under whelming either.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. Most of the characters in this book are clueless but then magically gain insight into their predicament.

Any additional comments?

I wanted this book to be much better but it just did not measure up to any real writing standards. The main character would not know what certain words meant and then he would go on to describe their meaning. There was not enough of a back story and I did not care anything for the characters. To be fair they were expendable clones that had been created thousands of times and were on a repeating cycle of death and not understanding what they were doing.

I stopped listening to the book half way though. It was boring beyond belief.

Worth picking up

This is a short book but worth the audible credit. The subject matter is very introductory but well written.

Good info but out of date.

The first few chapters of this book provide some basic science. Mostly it is stuff that one would learn in a first year community college class. This book deals primarily with the politics of 2003. It is woefully out of date with current policies, politics, funding, and discoveries.

The book is well written and well read. If you want to know the basics behind a SETI project I do suggest you read this book.
