Revisado: 02-18-25
Thoroughly enjoyed the story but I have serious questions about whether I liked the MMCs behavior at the end and how casually it was written off. I get poetic license etc but …..

Brilliant start with a weak finish
Revisado: 09-29-24
The first 90% was brilliant but then collapsed into a complex and convoluted conspiracy. Could have been Erik ed without the white noise and been 100x better. Needs a good editor and rewrite.
Shame because before that point the story was EPIC

Historia
Fresh off being named Citizen magazine’s Man of the Year, New York City’s youngest mayor, Robert Davenport, decides it’s time to strategize. Next move: a bid for the governor’s seat. In his way: an incumbent with a flawless reputation. He also has an Achilles’ heel: an estranged wild-child daughter with a past so scandalous it could be Robert’s ticket to victory. And a charm so irresistible it could be Robert’s downfall. Rebellion is a thing of the past for Adeline Blake. As New York’s premier event planner, she’s all about reform and respectability.

Carter Beckett is the NHL’s resident bad boy, top player both on the ice and in the bedroom, and quite possibly the sexiest man to ever grace my field of vision. But worst of all? He knows it. He’s arrogant, self-centered, and the man doesn’t seem to know what a filter is, let alone how to use one. He’s had everything served to him on a silver platter, including endless strings of women, and apparently, I’m up next. I have the solution to all my sexual frustrations in a drawer at home, and it’s far less complicated than Carter Beckett.

EPIC
Revisado: 06-19-24
It’s a longish read but the character development and narrative are brilliant and some of the best I have ever read. The biggest difference is that the author has taken time to build characters that we become invested in. The extra time taken makes the plot development feel more real and I was really invested all the way through.
As the story progressed I liked the mature way they dealt with issues as they arose and came out as a stronger couple. I liked that the side characters are well rounded, real and add color to the story and they help build the story rather than prop it up.
Despite comments in other reviews I LIKED the 3rd Act and felt it had a bit more reality (possible to happen in real life) and the way it is addressed was well rounded and felt more genuine rather than some books that feel rushed or there is a weird roundabout construct that is unrealistic. This has a solid build to the 3rd Act and a well delivered resolution. I like that the story continues to build, despite conflict.
I recommend it 150%. Moving to Book 2 now.
Audience - Adult
After-taste - how did I feel after ? I walked away feeling like it was fun, uplifting and realistic. A brilliant empowering read with a clever fun (and funny) journey.
Angst / Conflict Level - It had a bit of angst and pain but lacked any heart-ripping or discomfort.
Trope - Hockey
Overall
Story 5+++
Spice / Steam 3.5
Romance and realism 5
HEA Yes

Historia
Once upon a time, Maggie Cooper lived for adventure. Jumping out of planes was child’s play. Now she can’t even work up the nerve to ask out her coworker. For a bit of self-therapy, she begins to text her recently deceased mother’s phone - the only problem is that the number has been reassigned and for weeks she’s been unknowingly texting a stranger her deepest thoughts and feelings. There have also been some not-so-deep texts, like the ones about her appreciation for her coworker’s butt.

Historia
After twenty years, the cracks in Lauren Reed’s marriage are showing. She and her husband, Jack, feel more like roommates than a loving couple. What they have in common are two wonderful teenagers, Michael and Maddie, and the same wistful question: When did it all go wrong? Now that Lauren’s decided to get on with her life—alone—divorce is inevitable. Not to the kids. They aren’t giving up so easily.

Absolutely Brilliant-an original and clever story
Revisado: 03-06-24
Amazing Readers (Amy Hall & Ryan Duncan) gave voice to a genius tale.
Story - Second Chance married couple on the brink of divorce getting back on track with help from their teenage kids and friends. There remains an underlying tension that the reader is left wondering if they will make it.
I walked away from this story feeling that it was amazingly written. The insights and nuances were clever and made the story real and it had the right feel.
The FMC's inner dialogue really resonated and helped us understand (especially) where the other party might be tone-deaf to situations and the unconscious signals that put the relationship on a downward path. IT made the narrative feel more realistic.
It felt true to life that I enjoyed. I was really impressed the way it avoided the stilted situations often used by other authors to twist the plot. This felt far more natural.
Style - Dual POV - with great introspection and inner dialogue to help the reader understand how far the FMC & MMC have drifted and why.
Angst / Conflict level - really feels the vibe of the trope but lacks bad angst and reflects move to frustration and then giving up. It gives a great insight into the mind of the MC's. There is genuine conflict and pain and at times I was left wondering if they would make it.
Trope Vibe - This was an entirely new trope for me and the vibe was amazing. A couple that is about 20 years marriage and have silenced their own voice. The story was clever and developed brilliantly.
Spice/Heat 2.5
Audience - Adult
After-taste - how did I feel after ? I walked away feeling like it was uplifting and real. A brilliant empowering read with a tumultuous journey.

Historia
No, I hadn’t heard that Ryan Prince was staying at the very resort I had just started working at. If I had, maybe I would have called in sick. On second thought, maybe I wouldn’t have, because I really needed that paycheck. Being a single mother and having a lapse in child support had made me that desperate. Still, I would have rather avoided the circus that rolled into Hawk Tail Resort and the man who sauntered in with it. All these years later and he was still that same gorgeous football player I left behind in college.

Absolutely Epic
Revisado: 03-05-24
Trope Vibe / Story - Second Chance College lovers reunited. Both stressed and a bit broken.
Style - amazingly written with clever insights and nuances that make the story real and has all the feels. The story uses the MC's inner dialogue(s) to help us understand (especially) where the other party might be clueless to an event or situation and makes the narrative feel more realistic. It felt true to life that I enjoyed. I was really impressed the way it avoided the stilted constructs used by other authors to create a plot , This felt far more natural.
Angst / Conflict level - I always felt the underlying tension that went with the back-story. It was 200% perfect. It was sometimes tense but had real internal conflicts that often came out but it was true to the characters and supported both parties insecurities and back-stories.
Definitely has an edge but not overly angsty
Spice/Heat -3.5
Audience - adult.
After-taste - how did I feel after ? MIND BLOWN - it was freaking EPIC ! I purchased two more of her books immediately.

I found Killian drunk and sprawled out on my lawn like some lost prince. With the face of a god and the arrogance to match, the pest won't leave. Sexy, charming, and just a little bit dirty, he's slowly wearing me down, making me crave more. He could be mine if I dare to claim him. Problem is, the world thinks he's theirs. How do you keep an idol when everyone is intent on taking him away?

I really rate the author
Revisado: 10-05-23
….. You rarely get a book in this genre that surprises you. This was THE BOOK I needed and never expected. It has sat in my library for years unloved (wrongly).
Rock star romances are normally so imbalanced and tainted by ugly situations with groupies, miscommunication and misplaced circumstances …. AVOIDING THIS BOOK WAS WRONG - IT IS EPIC !
In this case we have a pair that meet in an unusual (funny) situation and the FMC shows character and real grit and substance. She remains true to that throughout the book. It is so refreshing.
She has grit but he is steadfast. Both are tainted by others (parents, bad experiences and fear).
Its good to see a MMC fall hard and stay committed to doing the right thing. He’s a bit different and in another setting you could see his character as the steadfast soldier/marshall/cowboy living by a strong and unyielding moral code.
Callihan has used a romance lens to paint that “code of the west character” in a modern setting. He will not bend and would rather hurt himself in order for her to succeed and shine. None of this “I am flawed” nonsense. He’s doing right by his most precious love.
The best part is that the FMC has the same undertone and is allowed to show it ! She is a powerhouse.
Both MCs have amazing talent and they balance each other in a far more mature way. I like how this power dynamic is balanced. When one MC has the power over the other it is nasty and requires the other to be a victim or weak. This is the opposite. Its all positive.
Both are trying to do right by the other but they are influenced by others, bad advice from family and supposedly trusted friends who mislead them due to their own bad experiences or insecurities rather than malice. This is another positive – a strong family/friends/tribe vibe to the support characters and their own ethics.
The pain was palpable in some cases but never felt like a dramatic construct.
The build up feels real and balanced. It has a realistic rhythm and narrative with a well developed plot.
The closure makes perfect sense
Brilliantly narrated and lovingly put together it just worked.
Spice / Steam 3.25 – spicy but not dirty or with k*nks
Realism – how they meet & develop – a solid 5
Readers 5
Story 5
Flow / Narrative 5
