Historia
Follow the Science recounts, in exacting detail, how far the pharmaceutical industry and its supporters in medicine, media, and government will go to protect their profits. Attkisson provides shocking examples that reveal the disturbing callousness our government, public health officials, and top researchers are capable of when it comes to the most vulnerable among us. And she explains, in a graphic sense, how some of the most trusted within our society are willing to commit life-threatening ethics violations.

Mind blowing, and not so mind blowing
Revisado: 10-17-24
I have long been suspicious of big pharma but this book far beyond confirmed my suspicions. The corruption in the government and pharmaceutical industry, along with those that are lazy in the medical industry, have created the perfect storm to keep Americans dependent on pharmaceuticals and continue to make us sicker and sicker.
If you care about your health and that of your family start thinking critically about the information we're receiving and from whom we receive it. This book is an excellent source as many resources are given in the last chapter on how to do this.
To health through critical thinking.

Historia
After a shocking diagnosis for a rare pituitary disease, and with her eighteen-year marriage in shambles, Risa's life has fallen far from picture-perfect. Recovering from brain surgery and desperate to get back to her former self, she signs up for the bike tour of a lifetime-six weeks from Canada to Mexico on the Pacific Coast Highway. The old Risa could have done the ride in her sleep, but for the new Risa, trapped in a body that no longer feels like her own and stuck in the company of her brain tumor, Bubba, the ride becomes a challenge unlike anything she's ever faced.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Untuck this recording quality

Extremely vulgar - beware
Revisado: 07-14-22
I get the title of the book so I expected some vulgarity. I've been known to cuss like a sailor so I'm not offended by swearing (I love to drop F bombs - it's my favorite adjective) but this is over the top. In some places swear words are nearly every other word. Swearing, when used appropriately, is great to drive home a point but the overuse of it really loses the message. With all the letters behind her name I would think she could be just slightly more professional. I'm sure she has a terrific vocabulary. I'm really interested in the message but for me it became too much. I find myself having to turn it off.
And it sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. Very echoey.

Historia
On Getting Unstuck, Pema Chodron introduces a rare Tibetan teaching she received from her teacher, Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche, and one that has become critical to her practice. Here, she unveils the mystery of an ineffable quality; a "pre-emotional" feeling that arises in us, brings us discomfort, and causes us to react by escaping the discomfort, often with harmful habits. With Getting Unstuck, she offers us a first look at "both the itch and the scratch": what Tibetan Buddhists call shenpa.

I loved this book. I've listened to it twice as there is so much to get out of it. I will continue to listen to it as a reminder on how to continue to grow and be aware of myself.
