Historia
Running for My Life is not a story about Africa or track and field athletics. It is about outrunning the devil and achieving the impossible: faith, diligence, and the desire to give back. It is the American dream come true and a reminder that saving one can help to save thousands more. Lopez Lomong chronicles his inspiring ascent from a barefoot lost boy of the Sudanese Civil War to a Nike sponsored athlete on the US Olympic Team. Though most of us fall somewhere between the catastrophic lows and dizzying highs of Lomong's incredible life, every reader will find in his story the human spark to pursue dreams that might seem unthinkable.

Very Inspiring
Revisado: 03-09-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely - this is a very inspiring story! If you think you are proud to be an American now, wait 'till you read this! After seeing my country through the eyes of this young man, I feel more pride than ever before!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Running for My Life?
His portrayal of the everyday moments when he first came to America and how much he had to adapt to life outside of the refugee camp. It's the little things we take for granted everyday such as hot running water, indoor plumbing and lighting - these things really threw poor Lopez into a tailspin! He never came across such things in his country or the refugee camp in which he spent nearly all of life up until that point.
Have you listened to any of Brandon Hirsch’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I don't believe I have come across him as a narrator before, but I did enjoy his voice.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Success Through Faith and Perseverance
Any additional comments?
This one will go quickly - enjoy the run!

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

Written with Sensitivity and Grace
Revisado: 03-09-14
Would you listen to The Things They Carried again? Why?
I have been meaning to read this novel for some time and finally got around to listening to the audible version. I was so glad I did! This book is very eloquent and written in such a sensitive way. This gentleman has painted the story of his platoon and adventures in Vietnam so vividly and with so much compassion for comrades, you will feel like you know them all by the time the story ends.
Who was your favorite character and why?
There were many favorites - all the characters came to life for me.
Have you listened to any of Bryan Cranston’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to others, but I did feel the voice and inflection of this narrator was essential to advancing the story to it's conclusion.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, when the narrator and his daughter traveled back to Vietnam.
Any additional comments?
I'm grateful for the opportunity to take this journey with this author.

Historia
After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

Be Afraid! A Chilling Tale
Revisado: 06-10-13
Would you listen to The Good Nurse again? Why?
I WILL listen to The Good Nurse again! This story is as frightening as any other about a serial killer - don't be taken in by the fact that this man was a nurse. He is very scary! The most frightening thing about Charlie Cullen is his disconnection with humanity and his ability to hide behind his professional persona. I am a nurse and I almost didn't purchase this book because I didn't want to "know". But, now I'm glad I did, Charlie's crimes have fascinated me in twisted way and I may never be the same again.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The narrative spoke in a direct, assertive style. He was the "anti-charlie" and the contrast between him and the main character created a stark tension right from the start! I don't think I would have felt this contrast so strongly just by reading the written text. The narrator really picked up some nuances that helped move this story of deception along the road to it's conclusion.
Have you listened to any of Will Collyer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I wouldn't mind hearing him again.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Like an injection of ice in your veins!

This was a "freebie" for me and I wasn't disappointed - thanks, Audible for the gift of this book.
What other book might you compare Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find - and Keep - Love to and why?
Yes, it's "pop" psychology, if you want to call it that, but it presents some interesting theories and, in all, is very "listen-worthy".
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find - and Keep - Love?
It made me take a closer look at my relationships - some are good, some are great and some need work! If you truly want to do some self-analysis, get this book. It's worth the time.

Unusual story! Human, touching!
Revisado: 04-28-13
Would you try another book from Jonathan Safran Foer and/or the narrators?
Probably, although I found there were parts to the story that I just "didn't get" - there were also moments that were beautiful. The writing style is very different and when it's at it's best, completely engaging.
Which scene was your favorite?
I enjoyed it when the protagonist met the elderly gentleman while on his quest to find an object left behind by his Dad who was killed in 911. The man was so querky, sweet and unforgettable.
Could you see Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Unfortunately, that ship has sailed and I don't think it helped this story become any more popular - in fact, it probably did it an injustice.
Any additional comments?
Be patient through the difficult parts, so will make more sense in time -

Historia
In the satirical tradition of Catch-22 and M*A*S*H, Fobbit takes us into the chaotic world of Baghdad's Forward Operating Base Triumph. The Forward Operating base, or FOB, is like the back-office of the battlefield - where people eat and sleep, and where a lot of soldiers have what looks suspiciously like an office job. Male and female soldiers are trying to find an empty Porta Potty in which to get acquainted, grunts are playing Xbox, and watching NASCAR between missions....

Funny in a twisted-way!
Revisado: 04-28-13
What did you love best about Fobbit?
I liked that Fobbit was a "real" story - hey, not everyone is cut out to be a hero! Doesn't that make the heroes among us even more special, anyway? I did find myself fully engrossed in this book. The tale had more emotion than I expected despite it's humorous approach. Also, I must say - even the "Fobbits" of this world do a difficult job during times of war. I ended up feeling their pain (if not actual physical pain, well - at least, mental anguish and boredom, punctuated by moments of sheer terror!) It's a good story with an easy-going approach and I think there are some moments of real surprise!
What does David Drummond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This story is so character-driven - I can't imagine NOT listening to it!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely - held my interest all the way through.
Any additional comments?
Get it - excellent for those who like off-beat characters, satire or military tales.

Revisado: 03-02-13
Would you try another book from Dan Hampton and/or John Pruden?
Perhaps.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Viper Pilot?
I think just overall - getting the perspective of a different kind of warrior. If you think being a pilot is easy, think again! I think the author did a good job of describing the challenges of learning the craft as well as actually performing in combat.
Would you listen to another book narrated by John Pruden?
yes, a good narrator
Do you think Viper Pilot needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, I think the story was told in a complete way. This man is a hero - he did what his country asked of him in a very admirable way.

Worth a listen if you like military or combat stories.

Revisado: 03-02-13
What made the experience of listening to Listening Is an Act of Love the most enjoyable?
I loved hearing all the stories - it was so touching and HUMAN! What a great project with amazing potential
What was one of the most memorable moments of Listening Is an Act of Love?
I remember many of the stories - a woman who worked nights in a shipyard during WWII to make ends meet for her family, a woman with cancer whose husband stood by her throughout all of her difficulties, a young man who tells his grandfather how much he means to him, a man who honors his father hard work in a steel mill - the list goes on!
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite story was the one told by the woman with cancer - she and her husband were so dedicated to each other and she realized this when he stood by her, even at her worst moments! So touching and beautiful!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried mostly happy tears!

Anyone who saw an episode of Saturday Night Live between 1999 and 2006 knows Rachel Dratch. She was hilarious! So what happened to her? Her career at a low point, Dratch suddenly had time for yoga, dog- sitting, learning Spanish - and dating. After all, what did a forty-something single woman living in New York have to lose?

Not as Funny as it was advertised to be!
Revisado: 03-02-13
What disappointed you about Girl Walks into a Bar...?
it's not that funny. I found Rachel to be somewhat whiney - I mean, after all - we all have problems and challenges in life. The trick is to not take ourselves too seriously and I thought this book was going to more light-hearted than it was.
What could Rachel Dratch have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Not use the term "bull dyke" - I mean, really Rachel, the 60's are over and they want their hurtful terminology back. I'm not suggesting you need to be politically correct all the time, but "bull dyke"? Really? you're a comedian and an entertainer, not a grizzled veteran of the Vice Squad!
What aspect of Rachel Dratch’s performance would you have changed?
Her performance wasn't bad, but it really didn't add much to the story. Really, i don't think anyone else would want their name associated with this gig!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
A bit of anger and definite disappointment.
Any additional comments?
Don't bother getting this unless you're an overpaid entertainer who likes to whine and call other people names.
