REAL CRIME, REAL PEOPLE
Revisado: 02-03-23
Wow - this was a very compelling story and it checked every box for me. The writer was a seasoned newspaper reporter who covered a lot of crimes. I looked it up and she has a boatload of journalism awards. And it kind of reads like a long but interesting newspaper story. Hisle may not be a professional narrator, but I found her voice to be soothing. I'm betting her use of "quote, unquote" is part of her training to ensure stories are factual and accurate. I like the fact that she personally interviewed the key figure in this story first-hand and shares all with the readers/listeners. I highly recommend this book if you want to read about a real crime with real people.

Reading Tweets Aloud Bad Idea
Revisado: 11-09-22
I’ve read every other Strike novel and loved them all. I was excited to read this one. But I was disappointed. Whomever produced this audiobook clearly had no idea how social media works. I’m guessing that 30% of this book consisted of reading fictional messages supposedly posted on Twitter. And reply after reply after reply. Worse, the narrator must have been instructed to read the whole string every time. So you are treated to 10 minutes of so and so @blanketyblank @ blankety boop @ blankety blah blah and so on. Terrible. Why not adjust the wording for audio? E.g. “it’s too late now” posted Jerry@ink-black posted. Sarah@cartoontime replied. “agreed,”. What a shame. That stunted and long-winded format was mind-numbing and added many hours to the read time. Good premise. Bad execution
