Historia
Outsiders call Manuel a villain. After spending his youth entangled in inner-city gang warfare, he’s lied, robbed, and murdered his way to the top. His path was set long ago, when two killers massacred his family in front of him. While Manuel was able to take down one of the murderers, his bloodlust has grown for the killer who got away. When he gets the chance to complete his vengeance, the city cowers beneath his thirst for retribution....

Intense, Dark & Memorable
Revisado: 05-13-17
I was surprised by this story. Was it a tragic ending or not? You'll have to judge for yourself. The story of Manuel is at once heartbreaking and shocking, especially for those of us sheltered from a life of violence and/or unspeakable tragedy. Manuel survives a horrendous beginning and finds meaning in his survival through vengeance and then later, more basic human needs. He tells both a sympathetic and a villainous, evil tale.
The narrator has a nice voice and does an excellent job. I was mesmerized when intense moments or turning points were punctuated with background noise or effects.
I would not recommend this audiobook for anyone who can't handle or doesn't want to hear about graphic violence or sex. This is overall a dark story but it has purpose and it's a worthwhile book...if your up to it.

Can't wait for the next book :)

This story is an imaginative, fantastical tale. It's full of interesting characters including unique creatures and monsters. Unexpectedly, I found it a bit relevant to real life with our advances in genetic technology. The author writes about humans experimenting with crossing human genes with animals. The long term results of this experimenting shape the story in many important ways. You glimpse the possibilities of this technology in a fantasy setting.
The Narrator is very talented. He brought many different characters to life, making the story easier to follow. This was especially helpful since its an audio book. I enjoyed this book and await the next.

Imaginative, fun for the family
Revisado: 12-03-16
I thought it was very imaginative and interesting how the author weaves this story through the perspectives of a growing and maturing boy and a dolphin. You experience the highs and lows of life through this unique evolving friendship.
Although the dolphin perspective is fiction, it was fun to learn some information about dolphins. Through Toby/ 'The Boy' you learn a bit about sailing and aviation.
The narrator reads the story clearly, with a pleasant voice. I do enjoy a little more voice acting. But, nevertheless he did a nice job.
Minus a few moments of...mammal nature, this tale is pretty clean and would be ideal for a family roadtrip in my opinion.

Historia
Chicago-style politics is front and center. When a sitting president has his roots in this sullied political heritage, it makes for news and leads to speculation. Not Black and White is a fictional account of many of the events that led to the meteoric rise of a local charismatic street politician to become America's first African American president and the downfall and imprisonment of two consecutive governors of the state of Illinois, along with several of their most trusted advisors and cohorts.

Makes you think...
Revisado: 06-15-16
This book is relevant to our current political climate. It reminds one that there are many different people, weather directly or inadvertently involved in how issues are handled and decisions are made.
While I try to stay informed, I do not tend to read political books. This was an interesting departure from anything I've read. At times, I felt the author was drawing parallels between reality and the story. It made me curious about where the story would go next. Also, the author regularly switches between characters to tell the whole story, which helped to keep my interest.
The Narrator does a good job creating a new cadence for each character. That being said, its challenging to keep track of so many different people in an audio book. However, so many characters may only highlight the point of the story. I received a copy of this story in exchange for my honest opinion.
