Historia
Tough-as-nails criminal defense attorney Jane Smith is hip-deep in the murder trial of the century. Actually, her charmless client might’ve committed several murders. She’s also fallen in love with a wonderful guy. And an equally wonderful dog, a mutt. But Jane doesn’t have much time. She’s just received a terminal diagnosis giving her twelve months. Unless she’s murdered before her expiration date.

Confusing ending!!!
Revisado: 10-06-23
Reading was exceptionally good. The writing was also very good. However, the ending was confusing.Who was he supposed to have killed?
Was this left hanging to establish the base for a sequel?????

Not up to Leon Uris standards.

Story told in very disjointed format with a very abrupt ending. I believe that the whole segment on the Eagle Scout Troop could have been omitted, without significantly impacting the story.

Historia
The struggle of the Irish people for independence is one of the compelling historical dramas of the 20th century. 1949 tells the story of Ursula Halloran, a fiercely independent young woman who comes of age in the 1920s. The tragedy of Irish civil war gives way in the 1920s to a repressive Catholic state led by Eamon De Valera. Married women cannot hold jobs, divorce is illegal, and the IRA has become a band of outlaws still devoted to and fighting for a Republic that never lived.

Fascinating historical novel
Revisado: 10-07-22
Growing up as a young child during this period in Ireland I was conscious of many of the events of the time. This series, has provided an enlightening framework and perspective within which these historical events occurred. All of this is presented in a very engaging story of the personal lives of the main characters.
If there is one criticism it would be the painful mispronunciation of Irish event, organization and place names, (ie the pronunciation of Eire A “ear”) which detracted from an otherwise outstanding narration.

How did a boy from small-town New York become the world’s most successful writer? How does he do it? He has always wanted to write the kind of novel that would be read and reread so many times that the binding breaks and the book literally falls apart. As he says, “I’m still working on that one.”

I have not read any of Patterson’s novels but thoroughly enjoyed this autobiography. His conversational style and his New York style delivery
made this story, easy listening.
I am encouraged to read some of his novels. I admire his mission of encouraging young people to read by providing them with a supply of short stories.

The Irish War of Independence, which ended in July 1921, led directly to the agreement of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, an agreement that provided Ireland with a measure of independence. The Irish Free State was created, and Ireland was granted a level of autonomy it had not enjoyed for more than 100 years. However, the treaty contained a clause that was to divide Ireland, literally and politically.

Enlightening
Revisado: 06-02-22
It was interesting to be confirmed in my belief that during the period 1916-1922 the British officially executed less than 25 while in the 11 months of the civil war the Irish Free State officially executed. between 75 and 80. This excludes probably hundreds ( from both sides) shot on a whim, including my father’s brother and another young man from Ballina, Co Mayo who were shot in cold blood near Clifden , Co. Galway in October 1922.
The narrators inability to accurately pronounce Gaelic people or place names, was a distraction.

I can’t remember listening to a book that I’ve enjoyed so much. I wanted to be in the stands chanting “Sooley, Sooley”. I’ve read most of Grisham’s legal thrillers and some of his other writings,……and I’ve enjoyed all of them. But, this one is special!
Finally, the narrator was excellent. His accents never confused the listener as to who was speaking, and his tone always brought you “into the moment” Bravo!

Historia
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.

Revisado: 08-04-20
I thought that I had a good grasp of the situation in the North of Ireland from the late 60s to the mid 90s. After listening to this book I had to face up to my own shortcomings in this area. During this period, I had three occasions to drive through this area constantly asking myself, “Am I in a friendly or a hostile area”. This book helped me grasp what it must be like to live full time with this tension.
Having a reader with a North of Ireland accent brought more credibility to the narrative. Fast pace, totally absorbing and enlightening.

Historia
From Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to the New York Times' 1619 project, the modern Left views American history through the lens of competing oppressions, replacing the traditional understanding that all Americans are part of a shared journey toward the perfection of universal ideals. Their attacks on the values that built our nation, from the rights to free speech and self-defense to the importance of marriage and faith communities, are insidious because they replace each of them with nothing beyond an increased reliance on the government.

Ben should have allowed a different reader, someone with a slower delivery to present this audible. There is so much information, so many philosophical concepts, that his rapid, staccato like delivery, makes the listener feel like they are taking a drink from a fire hydrant.

Historia
Eamon Redmond is a judge in Ireland’s high court, a completely legal creature who is just beginning to discover how painfully unconnected he is from other human beings. With effortless fluency, Colm Tóibín reconstructs the history of Eamon’s relationships - with his father, his first "girl", his wife, and the children who barely know him - and he writes about Eamon’s affection for the Irish coast with such painterly skill that the land itself becomes a character. The result is a novel of stunning power.

Exceptional writing
Revisado: 03-12-20
Not all great writers deliver gripping stories. This is a “nice” and interesting story. The characters are very real. However. It is the writing, the ability to make the characters come alive and be very human, their emotions believable and beautifully expressed , that makes this book really worthwhile.
