I have been transitioning to listening to books for the last few years. When you get a solid story/series with a talented narrator - it is a delicious combination. I jumped into the Demonica series out of order, starting with Azagoth, then the horsemen and then the Sem brothers and finally ending with the Reaper. I found the initial female narrators to have done the best jobs - Hilary Hubner and Cassandra Campbell. The male narrators...just not the right ones. Paul Boehmer sounds like he’s making fun of the story the entire time, I imagine him twirling a handlebar moustache. And John Solo, as mentioned by another reviewer, just sounded whiny and annoying. It is unfortunate this title that is supposed to be the bow to the present ends with such a weak narration. The story itself is satisfying, but the narration unfortunately colored my final reaction to the story.

I purchased the kindle version of this book when it first came out in 2012 and really enjoyed reading the story of Carolina and Alec. I was lucky enough to be introduced to talent of Ms. Chapman's magical storytelling earlier on with her first book, "Charming the Highlander" and have read every subsequent title since. It was with great sadness I heard of her passing three years ago, so what a great surprise I saw this title being made available in audible two weeks ago! Thank you to both the publisher and to Ms. Chapman's family for making this happen. I enjoyed Allyson Ryan's performance of the book, and so happy to revisit the town of Spellbound Falls and seeing the residence of that town once more. I hope the remaining Spellbound Falls (if not all of Ms. Chapman's books) will be converted to audio versions as well so people like me that might have enough time to read but can continue experiencing the magic through listening.

I am Blaine-excited that the publishers heard the comments for the audio version of "Hot and Badgered" and bought back Charlotte Kane to narrate Stevie and Shen's story! For loyal readers/listeners of Laurenston's shifter series, it's like time just fast-tracked and we are revisiting old friends and meeting new ones. I am thoroughly enjoying my listen to this book!

Pure Crusie and Mayer magic!

Been a fan of Jennifer Crusie for decades, love her zany characters and zippy storytelling, I’m slow to try out new authors. Nevertheless I was wanting to read a new JC book and decided to give “Wild Ride” a try. Boy was I happy that I did! The JC magic was there and Mayer provided an additional layer in terms of the male character’s voice and background (Mayer is former military) and it made a wonderful story. Agnes and the Hitman did not disappoint. Perhaps to some the career choice of Shane is off-putting, but come on people it’s fiction! To me Agnes did not come across as whiny as some reviewers said, I believe being abandoned by her parents and subsequent failed relationships made her feel insecure in between bouts of anger. I really enjoyed reading these two people, who at the beginning feel abandoned and lost, come together and find each other, and together with their crazy family members find love and belonging and contentment.

As for the narration - I LOVED Sandra Burr’s interpretation of the character’s voices. She was able to inject unique nuances and tones with each character - quite a feat when JC and BM tends to have many characters! As for the thought bubbles or echo tunnel voices, it was a bit strange in the beginning but I got used to it really quick and appreciated it because you can clearly hear when the characters are thinking, rather than speaking. It was part of the charm. I did not find Burr’s depiction of Agnes to be ditzy, she didn’t come across breathing the words, but I can see those familiar with JC’s previous female characters are usually quite ballsy, and perhaps the nickname “Cranky Agnes” prejudiced some people’s perception of how Agnes should have come a crossed.

Bottom line, I love the story, love the narration and am enjoying playing it again and again because it is so entertaining.

The narrator's cadence and enouciation reminded me of Shatner. Too distracting. Thank goodness I read the book first.
