Nothing new.
Revisado: 12-01-24
I really like Sonia’s books and own almost all of them. This book was disappointing to me because there is nothing really different than “Trust Your Vibes”. It’s a tedious listen because it takes forever for her to get to the point. She often talks in circles repeating herself. It a lot of filler information that’s boring. By the time she got to the main part of the book (about chapter 9), the endless generic anecdotes had already made me lose interest. The advice is recycled from her other books. I can tell that not a lot of thought went into this new book, and that the writing was rushed to make quantity over quality. Over all, this book could have just been an unreleased chapter added to another one of her books. If you have already read her other works, I’d skip this one.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Epic story with tedious anatomy lessons
Revisado: 01-19-24
The story is intriguing from the get go and the author is a great narrator; however, the amount of detail is excruciating. It takes forever to get to the point , and he skims over important event. The story and characters get lost in the nauseating descriptions of medical situations and terms. It often feels like the listener is in a college level medical science class. There is so much that is unnecessary and contributes very little to the plot or over all meaning. I can appreciate the author’s medical background and the fact that he is an excellent writer. Unfortunately, the unnecessary and long descriptions are really frustrating and extremely dull at times. There is too much to process that is meaningless in the grand scheme of the story. The plot is beautiful, sad, and devastating. It is not for the weak of heart or stomach.

There is great info in this book. I really like Tosha's ideas. My problem is that that prayers are far too verbose. She uses a lot of flowery words, and its hard to rewind and write every single detail for reference. I just got frustrated by the long prayers that are all so similar. Maybe it would have been better for me to buy the print version. I do like her narrated stories, but I just couldn't finish the book.

Some nuggets of wisdom but mostly unrelatable
Revisado: 02-29-20
This book started off really well but I couldn't finish it about three quarters of the way. The author is very much an expert in her field and would probably be great to see in a seminar; however, the book didn't speak to me at all. Her techniques seem doable at first, but then they start to be tedious and unrealistic for those of us that aren't in white collar jobs. Her stories and examples are all about people that have established careers in the executive world that she helped to find their own path towards purpose. Basically, her advice is great for people with multibillion dollar businesses, but not for the average joe, like myself. The author is a great narrator with passion, but she just wasn't for me. There are some small pieces of advice that would help anyone, but they weren't substantial enough for me to keep the book. This is one title I'm returning.
