Historia
During André Leon Talley’s first magazine job, alongside Andy Warhol at Interview, a fateful meeting with Karl Lagerfeld began a decades-long friendship with the enigmatic, often caustic designer. Propelled into the upper echelons by his knowledge and adoration of fashion, André moved to Paris as bureau chief of John Fairchild’s Women’s Wear Daily, befriending fashion's most important designers (Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta). But as André made friends, he also made enemies.

Marriage equality has surged across the country. Closet doors have burst open in business, entertainment, and even major-league sports. But as longtime advocate Michelangelo Signorile argues in his most provocative book yet, the excitement of such breathless change makes this moment more dangerous than ever.

Revisado: 06-17-19
I was excited to read this book as a part of Pride Month. Unfortunately, the book doesn’t really present anything groundbreaking or strategic. The author discredits advances the community has made over the decades. He constantly complains and presents the community as a victim. Rather than rising up to meet the challenges any marginalized community faces, the book comes across as entitled.

Solid read
Revisado: 03-27-19
Read Sapiens a few months back and decided to compliment it with this book. Overall, it’s a solid read that presents an interesting question about the future oh human beings. It’s a big wordy but a compelling thesis. If you liked sapiens, it’s worth a read.

Historia
Once described by The Washington Post as "the most interesting mayor you've never heard of", Pete Buttigieg, the 36-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation's most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a "dying city", and transformed it into a shining model of urban reinvention.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Historia
The term gentrification has become a buzzword to describe the changes in urban neighborhoods across the country, but we don't realize just how threatening it is. It means more than the arrival of trendy shops, much-maligned hipsters, and expensive lattes. The very future of American cities as vibrant, equitable spaces hangs in the balance. How to Kill a City takes listeners from the kitchen tables of hurting families who can no longer afford their homes to the corporate boardrooms and political backrooms where destructive housing policies are devised.

Historia
In this groundbreaking work, William Cronon gives us an environmental perspective on the history of nineteenth-century America. By exploring the ecological and economic changes that made Chicago America's most dynamic city and the Great West its hinterland, Mr. Cronon opens a new window onto our national past. This is the story of city and country becoming ever more tightly bound in a system so powerful that it reshaped the American landscape and transformed American culture. The world that emerged is our own.

Incredibly dull
Revisado: 04-06-18
I was not impressed or intrigued by this book. The story focuses more on Chicago than any part of the West. It’s also very narrow insofar as timeline, sticking between just a few decades. There is no progression into how the seeds of the city played out in future decades and generations.

Yet while Bloomberg is internationally known and admired, few people know the man behind the carefully crafted public persona.

A great and relevant read
Revisado: 02-13-16
Coming at time when when Rumors surrounding a Bloomberg run for president, I found this book to be particularly interesting and informative about a man who has really accomplished so much. I find myself becoming more enthralled with this man as time progresses. Michael Bloomberg was mayor for the first my first five year as a New Yorker. I saw the city change so much for the better, yet I wanted to know more about his life. I definitely recommend this to someone interested in "Mike," New York City politics, or business in general.

Great book for big ideas
Revisado: 11-11-15
Grant does a great job of outlining how he has been successful and what it really takes to think and act big. The practicality is lacking (just a bit) but that is a good thing. I would recommend this book to someone trying to expand their idea of success and how to truly define it for yourself.
