More About Codependency Than Loving Too Much

Women Who Love Too Much was a bit of a letdown. While some parts of the book were insightful, I quickly realized that the focus was much more on codependency than "loving too much," which was a major disconnect for me. The concepts for healing are primarily focused on Al-Anon and AA. If these programs aren’t for you or don’t align with your approach, this book may not offer the guidance you're looking for.

The description promises a “specific program for recovery,” but much of the advice centers on using Al-Anon, hoping your partner gets sober, and rebuilding your life after stepping away from a toxic relationship. Had I known the entire premise was about codependency, getting your alcoholic partner sober, and the process of walking away to rebuild your life, I likely wouldn’t have purchased it. This advice wasn’t practical or helpful for me.

This book may be helpful for those struggling with codependency or in relationships with addicts. However, if you’re seeking advice on improving relationships or making better partner choices, it falls short of those expectations.

Supporting Their Reality: Practical Ways to Engage

I'm Still Here by John Zeisel is a compassionate and insightful guide for those navigating the challenges of Alzheimer's disease. While some of the conversations and resources feel a bit dated (understandable, given the book's 2009 publication date), the overall advice and perspective are incredibly valuable. The information may not always reflect the most current research, but the core principles and actionable strategies remain timeless and practical.

One of the standout aspects of the book is how it helps readers understand the world of someone living with Alzheimer's. Zeisel provides practical, empathetic advice on how to engage with a loved one who may no longer recognize you or be receptive to interactions. One example that resonated with me was the suggestion to leave and re-enter a conversation in a way that helps the person re-engage, especially if they don’t recognize you. It's a simple yet profound approach that can make a big difference in fostering connection.

A key theme throughout the book is the importance of validating the person’s reality, even if it doesn’t align with your own. As Zeisel emphasizes, their reality is still very much real to them, and it's crucial to respect that—while still maintaining boundaries and ensuring safety.

Overall, I'm Still Here is an essential read for caregivers, family members, or anyone trying to understand and support someone with Alzheimer's. It offers practical tools for building communication, reducing frustration, and strengthening emotional bonds, all while honoring the unique experience of the person living with the disease.

Sick Boys delivers an engaging and intense experience, with the kind of dark, edgy themes that are hard to forget. I loved how the book unapologetically embraced its triggers, giving readers a raw, unfiltered look into its world. The CNC scenes were explored with a unique tension that added depth to the characters and their relationships, and I appreciated the balance between darkness and character development.

The narrators did an excellent job of making each character distinct, with their subtle voice changes making it easy to recognize who was speaking. Once I caught onto their "tone," it felt much easier to follow along, enhancing the overall experience.

The story itself was mostly engaging, though there were a couple of moments that made me pause. A big brawl, for example, didn’t mention rain until much later in the book, which left me thinking, Wait, when did it start raining? It was a small oversight, but it did take me out of the moment for a second.

On the plus side, the smutty scenes were exactly what you'd expect: fully described, satisfying, and definitely steamy. I’ll admit, I might’ve been a bit greedy and wanted even more, but what was there was hot, passionate, and did not disappoint.

Sick Boys is a wild, unforgettable ride. For readers who crave dark romance and sizzling chemistry, this book delivers it all—bold, hot, and unapologetically raw. If you're looking for something intense and sensual, this one’s for you.

I would not read this book again and was happy when it was finally over. While there is some interesting content, a lot of what is said is quotes form other books and references to many other authors and speakers concepts. So really it was more of a review of a lot of already existing content and information, maybe its good for someone who hasn't already read pretty much every book they referenced within this book already.

I liked this book and it was inspiring. I did not like the narrator as much though, and her odd pronunciation of the word "trauma" was awful and inconsistent throughout the book. Otherwise I liked it.

Dysfunction Disguised as Relationship Advice

I’m not sure if the other reviewers read the same book I did. The content is rudimentary, unoriginal, and lacks depth. If you’ve read any other relationship book—EVER—skip this one.

⚠️ Trigger Warning: The male author victim-blames, arguing that even the abused party in a relationship is at fault. He insists that both people are equally responsible for a failing relationship, even in cases of abuse. He even states both parties are actually victims in those relationships. It’s disturbing to hear this perspective from a so-called therapist.

The writing and insights feel immature, as if written by people in their early twenties rather than experienced therapists. They lack self-awareness and fail to provide any real value. Instead of offering meaningful guidance, they frame their own dysfunctional relationship as a universal experience. Vanessa openly states that every six months, John questions whether she loves him enough. They present this as typical, but it’s actually an ongoing, unresolved issue that they fail to acknowledge as unhealthy. Rather than demonstrating personal growth, they normalize patterns that many would consider red flags, making it hard to take their advice seriously.

John repeatedly brings up his clients faking their "O"—a weird, irrelevant fixation that adds nothing to the book except to suggest his own unresolved issues. Meanwhile, Vanessa claims to be deeply spiritual but only in a surface-level way. She even promotes being disgusted by your partner and normalizes intolerance toward their political views. She also contradicts herself on communication, advocating for interpreting “context vs. subtext” instead of prioritizing clear, direct communication. This is a toxic ideology.

Lastly, if you’re sensitive to mouth noises, John’s wet, clicky voice is unbearable. Unfortunately, I had already bought the audiobook, so I had to suffer through it.

Save your time and money—this book has nothing of value to offer.

right at the beginning, I didn’t like either of the voices. And it was difficult to understand when the character was speaking versus when they were thinking internally because the voice was consistent with both narrators. And the female main character’s voice sounded exactly the same as the sisters, I know it’s the same voice actor, but the voice acting was exactly the same. It was distracting how much the male character spoke in a feminine voice, and the female character spoke in her masculine voice, it grew on me at the end, but was definitely hard to get into. It was an OK book. It was available for free, but I would not pay for this.

This book was an invaluable resource when I was finally realizing the person I was married to was a narcissist. This is easy to read and the information is easy to consume in short doses if you are reading in private on limited time.

Changed my whole perspective on organizing

I loved this book, and the concept that there isn't a wrong way to organize. I have always liked to see my things, and struggled with closed storage but felt having my things out was messy and "wrong". Turns out I am a 'ladybug' in my organizing style. I have taken down cabinets in my small bathroom and opted for open shelving and put out all my hair and skin care on them so I can SEE my items and actually use them. This has helped me reframe my thinking of organizing my whole house, and how I help keep my kids organized. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be organized but find that no matter how many times you try, your life and house just goes back to chaos. You are just not using the right method and way that works for YOU or your Home.

This book was great at helping me re-evaluate who I was or wanted to be. I did like all the little personal stories within the book. And setting a timer with words for me to help stay aligned with who I am/want to be was so helpful.
