The saga of Mr. Awesome
Revisado: 07-18-18
This book begins with someone who has quite a fall because he thinks he is the smartest person in the room and that the world revolves around him.
I waited till the end of the book for those qualities about him to change but I'm not really sure that they ever do. the author tries to take us on a tour of his self discovery where he grows but if you ask me, he's not all that different by the end of the book.
that being said, if you're into RPGs, particularly MMORPGs (like World of Warcraft), you'll relate to many things in this book which makes it entertaining. The author also has some interesting approach to NPCs (non-player characters, I.e. the AI driven computer characters).

Historia
A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented - something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding. Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past.

This book was too clever for me that it was tiring
Revisado: 05-24-18
I believe this book is about 30% longer than it needs to be. The basic premise, that a has-been music performer has to put on the act of his life to save the human race is interesting enough, but the author's writing is very tiring.
I get the impression that the author very much likes other authors and tried to mimic their style, but without truly understanding what makes it good. If you have ever listened to, or read, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then you may understand how the clever use of wacky similies can lead to a very entertaining read. The thing is to use it with a measured hand -- I feel that the author of this book opened up a thesaurus of the bizarre at every opportunity, but didn't settle on just the first entry, but also the second AND the third AND the fourth AND the fifth. In fact, my eyes would roll into the back of my head whenever the word "AND" came up in the book because I knew I was about to be subjected to a long spew of rubbish -- at which point I would often tune out until the ANDs were done. What's worse is that not all the similes were clever or funny which would dilute the effectiveness of those that were.
If one were to edit out 30-50% of this book and leave behind only the more clever portions, the book would be far more entertaining. As it is, however, it truly was tiring.
Everyone asked me why I continued with the book if I disliked it so much. My answer? Precisely so that I could say I completed the book when I wrote this review.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

decent for a sequel
Revisado: 03-14-18
this book isn't quite what you may expect having read the previous one. that being said, it's entertaining nonetheless.
while it was well narrated, I'm sad that they switched from the reader of the first book in the series. not that this narrator is bad, but that the other one is my favorite reader of e-books.

Performance ok, story is a bit weak
Revisado: 01-12-18
I would have liked to like this book more - I had higher expectations of it. it's not that often that I breathe a sigh of relief when I get to the end of a book, but this was one such case. As I was getting closer to the end I was just looking forward for it to be over so I could move on.
while the book starts ok, it wants to be smarter than it is, leaving both characters and story a little thin compared to what has been built-up.

Historia
In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

book is a bit meh...
Revisado: 10-15-17
The premise of the book was interesting enough, but I felt like I was on a journey to nowhere the whole time. it made it a struggle to get through. you shouldn't be received when a book is finally over, and certainly you shouldn't be exclaiming, "seriously?" at the end, but, there you have it.
don't want to share more details because I wouldn't want to spoil the ending for those of you who make it that far.

Ever since Martin Banks and his fellow computer geeks discovered that reality is just a computer program to be happily hacked, they've been jaunting back and forth through time, posing as medieval wizards and having the epic adventures that other nerds can only dream of having. But even in their wildest fantasies, they never expected to end up at the mercy of the former apprentice whom they sent to prison for gross misuse of magic and all-around evil behavior.

great performance like the previous two books.
Revisado: 08-18-17
While the story is ok, it has lost some of it's reason for being. Instead, the author chooses to put some of his characters in an arbitrary but not wholly unamusing setting, all the while forgetting what it is we liked about them in the first place. That being said, the audio performance still remain spectacular.

I find both the story and the performance a little lackluster. that being said, there are some interesting concepts in the world being portrayed here. shame the follow through wasn't equally appealing.

great book, but reader puts me to sleep a bit
Revisado: 12-26-16
loved the story. unfortunately, the reader drones on monotonously which can be tiring.
when I first started my way through the book I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it through the book, but the story was compelling enough to keep me engaged.
Found the whole discussion about animals both fascinating and entertaining.
