Historia
Cal Hooper thought a fixer-upper in a bucolic Irish village would be the perfect escape. After 25 years in the Chicago police force and a bruising divorce, he just wants to build a new life in a pretty spot with a good pub where nothing much happens. But when a local kid whose brother has gone missing arm-twists him into investigating, Cal uncovers layers of darkness beneath his picturesque retreat, and starts to realize that even small towns shelter dangerous secrets.

Finally not a police procedural
Revisado: 10-10-20
Finally not a police procedural albeit an ex-cop protagonist. Hopefully she's taking baby steps away from detective fiction.

Historia
Richard Weatherford is a successful small-town preacher in the Arkansas Ozarks. He’s a proud husband and father of five and has worked hard to grow his loyal flock with strong sermons and smart community outreach. But while Weatherford is a man of influence and power - including a big force in local politics - he’s also a man with secrets. In the lead up to the 2016 presidential election, Weatherford’s world is threatened when he’s blackmailed by a former lover. Collecting the money the blackmailer demands will be a nearly impossible feat, especially over Easter weekend.

All I can say is I struggle to find books because I need a fresh story that maintains my interest and with a level of inappropriate that the majority would find offensive and DNF, etc. Just need this kid to dream bigger because I wish this book was 700 pages.

Made it a few hours in but the female voice was driving me nuts. I did try slowing her down to 90%, which was better but too many books out there to compromise.

Historia
Narrated by the irreverent, angry, despairing yet determined Detective Minami of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Tokyo Year Zero tells the riveting, complex story of the hunt for Kodaira Yoshio - known as the Japanese Bluebeard - a decorated former Imperial soldier who raped and murdered at least 10 women amidst the turmoil of Tokyo between May 1945 and August 1946. And it is the story of Detective Minami, chasing down, and haunted by, his own memories of atrocities that he can no longer explain or forgive.

Had me at irreverent detective
Revisado: 04-16-20
Forgot David can be rapper or poet and spouting nonsense because it sounds cool. I got about halfway sort of know whats going on but its too vague to be interesting. At least in 1970 something he just kept swearing (those books are a little more coherent).. As for Mark he is top notch narrator...not one with multiple personalities or anything like the Grand Master Steven Pacey but still good.

I love your voice Amy! I've listen to all your stuff...even Lisa Gray's but I think your performance of Paul's book might be your best.
