Historia
Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a "wonderful" husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical - most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver. Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent - and on a quest of her own....

Very enjoyable and thought provoking
Revisado: 01-24-25
I highly recomend this book and its sequels. This book is not perfect, but it is very good. I enjoyed it immensely. At times it feels like it falls into the trope of giving people who are not neurotypical super skills as compensation. I don't think this is intended, but rather a result of it being a romance where the protagonist is somewhat idealized. It was very enjoyable and caused me to have several moments of deep empathy. Not o ly for the character, but for anyone who struggles with trying to fit in. Normally I hate romance books with sequels since a good story generally requires that the happy ending of the first book needs to be undermined. However I felt this books sequels did a good job of trading that needle. The second book dealing with the changes in life and how they can affect a lasting romantic relationship and the third book I found particularly touching as it was more about love within a family rather than a romantic setting.

Tala had to fight tooth and nail in the Magic Academy to forge a path to power that was her own. She knows it’s her duty to use that power to serve humanity, defending them against the creatures of the untamable wilds. However, she skipped a few steps in her education, like apprenticing to someone who actually knows what they’re doing. Now, Tala has to balance learning as fast as she can with paying off the veritable mountain of debt the Magic Academy dropped on her shoulders for the opportunity; not to mention staying alive.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit I was hesitant to but it because it has so few reviews. I should have bought it sooner because it was very enjoyable and I’ve read much worse books with many more reviews. This one is worth taking a chance on.

I really enjoyed this one the opening was a little boring. But a chapter or so in the inciting incident happens and the book takes off. An enjoyable power fantasy.

Historia
You change the world, but the world changes you too. There is no getting around it. And thus, the simple wish to live changed the life of medical student Aliya irrevocably. Trapped in a body that isn’t hers, and a world in which she does not belong, Aliya has made her decision - she must survive. Similar to the Middle Ages, but not entirely, Medieval Tale takes place in the dark ages of Ativerna, a universe inhabited by different populations that worship different gods. In this world, women are deprived their voices and their abilities to pursue ambition.

Historia
In Wisdom, Shelter. That’s the official motto of the Scholomance. I suppose you could even argue that it’s true—only the wisdom is hard to come by, so the shelter’s scant. Our beloved school does its best to devour all its students—but now that I’ve reached my senior year and have actually won myself a handful of allies, it’s suddenly developed a particular craving for me. Even if I somehow make it through the endless waves of maleficaria that it keeps throwing at me, I haven’t any idea how my allies and I are going to make it through the graduation hall alive.

Historia
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

I have a tendency to start series and not finish if ai get frustrated with the directions the author takes, but this series was good from the beginning to the end. I have already recommended it to a few people IRL, and I’m recommending it here as well.

Historia
I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts; I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, making myself the dark queen of the world.

Novik is great and this is her best yet.
Revisado: 05-30-23
Novik is a skilled writer with an exquisite imagination her books are always a good read because of the skill with which she writes them even if that story doesn’t catch my imagination. When she lands on a great story idea as she did with this one then it’s the kind of book you just can’t seem to put down even if you have work in the morning. Give it a try it’s worth it.
