Historia
Structured in three parts, each recounting a new expedition, there are some long-awaited answers here, to be sure, but also more questions, and profound new surprises. Absolution is a brilliant, beautiful, and ever-terrifying plunge into unique and fertile literary territory. It is the final word on one of the most provocative and popular speculative fiction series of our time.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Beautiful and Raw
Revisado: 04-28-21
I don't typically go for this kind of story, but the street-level view of war and occupation combined with the deeply personal and spiritual experiences of the narrator/protagonist as she grows from a callow youth to a wise adult is compelling. This is not a happy story, but it is well told, relatable for anyone who's had their heart broken, or broken a heart, and is well worth the time spent listening.

Historia
Invite Hannibal Lecter into the palace of your mind and be invited into his mind palace in turn. Note the similarities in yours and his, the high vaulted chambers of your dreams, the shadowed halls, the locked storerooms where you dare not go, the scrap of half-forgotten music, the muffled cries from behind a wall. In one of the most eagerly anticipated literary events of the decade, Thomas Harris takes us once again into the mind of a killer, crafting a chilling portrait of insidiously evolving evil - a tour de force of psychological suspense.

What Happened??!!
Revisado: 04-28-20
I listened to Red Dargon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal in one after another. I was so interested to listen to what I thought was going to be Clarice's hing for Hannibal as a part of the BAU. I hadn't watched the movie or read reviews because I wanted to be surprised. OOPS.
If you liked Clairce for her inner strength and unshakeable sense of justice, if you admired her willingness to fight for the innocent, her courage and moral clarity, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.
I sang Harris's praises to anyone who would listen about his nuanced and realistic portrayals of women, his apparent lack of bigotry, and now I feel like I need to go back and issue retractions. I am so disappointed.

Great Story, Great Narration
Revisado: 04-28-20
I got this one immediately after listening to Red Dragon and loved it. The narrator is good, good variety to the voices, and the story is SO good. I had watched the movie, so I was very interested in how the source differed. Definitely worth listening to!

Not his best work
Revisado: 01-27-20
I love Jeff Vandermeer usually, but this one just didn't land for me. The narrator did a great job again, but the story is so disjointed. I found the shifting between perspectives jarring. In "Acceptance," it was clearly three different interconnected stories but in this one, it just didn't quite work.
It may be that this is a book you should not try to listen to. Maybe it works better on the page. I still love Vandermeer but I don't expect I'll listen to this book ever again.

The narrator of this story is fantastic, first of all. She nailed it. Vandermeer's work is always odd, but this one REALLY was. It's beautiful and strange and haunting. Definitely worth a listen.
