Historia
Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Great tale, thoughtless narration
Revisado: 12-03-24
Should have been read by a woman, in my opinion. I think it would have helped ground the story a bit more.

Historia
Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

This is the kind of slow burn scorcher that I love. An amazing book with a really well earned ending.

Sibilant Contralto Mess
Revisado: 03-04-24
I’ve tried to read all of Khaw’s work, but this book finally pushed me over the edge. Her use of polysyllabic vocabulary works in short bursts, but it fails when stretched to novel length. I never connected with any of these characters, no matter how hard I tried. I hate to say it, but skip this book.

An Intensely Realized Tale
Revisado: 01-30-24
I really liked this, but it’s certainly not for everyone. Given the current state of American politics, I fear we’re closer to this in reality than is purely comfortable. Cutter always delivers, and this is no different.

Revisado: 09-13-23
As a constant reader, I know I’m predisposed to like King’s books, but this one really hit the spot. It’s a fantastic thriller with just enough horror laid over it to keep things compelling.
Highly recommended.

Holy Smokes
Revisado: 01-17-20
This might be the most densely realized sci-fi I’ve ever read. The book is great, the ideas huge, and the characters so fully fleshed out that I had trouble realizing they weren’t real.

Should have done my research before downloading
Revisado: 07-08-19
Had I realized that both the author and the reader were both alt-right knuckleheads, I wouldn’t have come anywhere near this one. That said, I did enjoy the parts that weren’t overt jabs at the perceived failings of the Left, and the number of different voices Baldwin was able to come up with was rather impressive.
