What a ride
Revisado: 01-14-25
Wow, this series was so captivating. I went through it nonstop.
Very dark and scary, but then the author would bring you back into the light. It was hopeful, dreadful, scary, heartwarming, and at times very funny.
The relationship between Randy and Jim was hilarious. But mostly the series was terrifying.
I so hope that the author follows up with another book continuing this story.
Narration was excellent.

Historia
Renowned journalist Don Lemon always had a complicated relationship with God. He cherished the Southern Black church he was raised in, but struggled with the fundamentalist rejection of his right to exist as a gay man—one who wanted to marry his longtime love in a church wedding with all the traditional trimmings. In his work as a reporter, moreover, he saw his fellow Americans losing faith in a higher power, in institutions, and in each other.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 09-19-24
Totally Don Lemmon. An honest and thought provoking look at another side of a coin I wouldn’t have had the great opportunity to have seem.
A beautiful story of a childhood filled with a loving family and close community. His experiences with the Church and his beliefs gave me a glimpse into a world I really never knew. Only what I saw in movies or the few talks I had with some Baptist friends about their religious upbringings gave me a bit of a peek into what the Black Baptist Church experience was like.
Hearing Don’s in depth experiences and his thoughts of the Bible stories and his deep devotion was very heartwarming and meaningful to me. Lots of food for thought. The death of his father and sister was heartbreaking and his tribute to them in how they influenced his life was beautiful.
As a huge Don Lemmon fan, I taped every show in case I missed it. There was a big empty when he left. Now with his podcast and following him on instagram, I look forward to his discussions and thoughts. The book is everything you would think about him. Honesty, refreshing and seeing things a different way. I also listened to his first book and love that he narrated both.
Its been great seeing him being interviews this past week on CNN and NewsNation about the book. He’s great to look at too!!!
Great book, loved it.

But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

Honesty, compassion and humor
Revisado: 08-14-24
I don’t think I ever missed a Seinfeld episode. When I started listening to this book, I started watching it all over again from season one. I loved it even more than when it first came out.
I paid close attention to the evolution of Kramer’s character and found it absolutely delightful. With every episode, I love the characters more and more and of course Kramer was always my favorite.
His kooky character was hysterically, funny, and very charming .
Michael’s book is a very a honest one about his extreme highs, extreme lows, and the middle.
It’s a heartfelt book that tells an honest
story that’s easily relatable and even when it’s not relatable, you honestly get it.
Loved this adventure and I’m thrilled that he shared it with us.
Thank you Michael and wishing you a continuous wonderful loving life .

It was a time
Revisado: 05-24-24
As a baby boomer, this was a time that was very dark as well as a time of great awareness and love. By day, we listened to amazing music from brilliant songwriters and singers, we read great poetry and read great books by authors like Kurt Vonnegut. We had Woodstock and colorful clothing and made the peace sign to our friends. We marched for black rights and women’s right. We landed men on the Moon and lost great people like Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy and musicians Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and many more great people.
And we had a “ Undeclared War” because we were so afraid to fall to communism. The amount of lives lost in this war from 1955-1975 were more than 3 million people, including over 58,000 Americans, and more than half of the dead were Vietnamese civilians.
At night, we would sit in front of the TV and see the photos and hear the news
of what was happening in Vietnam and our hearts would break. The anger and frustration we felt was a hopeless feeling. In 1969 when I graduated high school, many of my friends either were drafted or joined. It was a terrible time and a terrible war.
Reading this book was very painful because it brought back a lot of the memories. I personally lost a few friends and one came back as a paraplegic.
Then there was the group of people that treated the soldiers as murderers and heartless people.
This book is a great insight into what the soldiers there felt and experienced. Deeply intense and written beautifully.
I highly recommend this book to those people that lived through these times and those born after.
Great narration and a very important book. Brilliantly written with so much heart and compassion.
