Narrator sounds like he’s underwater, have to turn the volume up so loud on the road to be able to understand what he’s saying that neighboring cars can probably hear it. This is one that needs to be re-recorded with Scott Brick please!

LOVED this WW2 naval history. Author did an excellent job at creating a concise history of the vast amount of material from naval actions in WW2. Yet, it was still very easy to listen to (I did the Audible version) and I never found myself wandering off, which I find is very difficult to do for histories that I listen to on Audible. Very well done and I am now eager to listen to more of Symonds’ books!!!

Two entire sub-chapters are missing from the Audible version. The entire Second Silesian War is missing from its two sub-chapters in Chapter 2. I removed and redownloaded the file twice to make sure something hadn’t gotten messed up on my end but every time it came back missing those two sub-chapters. Pretty annoying.

Very enjoyable read!! Tons of deep thought and research about the near future of great power conflict were put into this novel. I have followed Mick Ryan on Twitter/X for a while now and he has always produced quality analysis of military situations like the Russo-Ukraine War. He rolled those skills straight into this book, which provides a similar wargame-style thought process to the Taiwan Strait as Clancy provided to the North Atlantic in Red Storm Rising. But he also brought in more of the humanity to his combatants, such as Shaara has done in his American Civil War novels. I really liked this blend of the two styles, and highly recommend this book!!
