The Narration Was Like Being on Vacation
Revisado: 06-24-19
I thoroughly enjoyed both Akata Witch and Akata Warrior. Yetide Badaki's narration elevated an already fun and fascinating story filled with wonder and adventure. I even went and bought the hard copy of both books and gave them to my 12 year old granddaughter to read. She's read them twice!!
I usually skip on reviewing books beyond the star ranking, but I truly recommend giving these books a spot on your shelf.

A new favorite cast of characters...
Revisado: 07-30-17
Kate Reading's performance makes this book even more memorable. I've fallen in love with these characters, and enjoyed the suffragette feel of their adventures. I will be watching/looking for the next book eagerly.

Historia
At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting - he’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different. It’s ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth.

The truth is sometimes painful, but we must always speak it. A Monster Calls is not a comfortable read, but its worth every page turned.

Historia
In 1993 Greg Mortenson was the exhausted survivor of a failed attempt to ascend K2, an American climbing bum wandering emaciated and lost through Pakistan's Karakoram Himalaya. After he was taken in and nursed back to health by the people of an impoverished Pakistani village, Mortenson promised to return one day and build them a school. From that rash, earnest promise grew one of the most incredible humanitarian campaigns of our time: Greg Mortenson's one-man mission to counteract extremism by building schools, especially for girls, throughout the breeding ground of the Taliban.

Eye Opening & Inspiring
Revisado: 05-25-08
Three Cups of Tea is one of those books that you remember for life. I hadn't even realized I didn't know the things Greg Mortinson's journey taught me. The Muslim world has been painted with only one brush since the tragedy of 9/11. In this book we see a whole new perspective on not only that event, but on the entire Muslim community - thier needs, thier beliefs, and their view of the US. This book should be mandatory reading for all US high school students, if not every American. Inspirational and eye opening is an understatement.

Acacia is Satisfying Fantasy
Revisado: 01-26-08
Acacia builds on itself like a great pan of lasagna, one layer at a time. Your focus is constantly changing, and thus, your interest constantly stimulated. Action, intrigue, character development, it's all there. You'll enjoy listening to this one too, though the narrator's voice gets a bit whiny when he tackles the female character's lines, but overall, he brings the book to life in an enjoyable way.
