I have not read a book from Ms Rappaport that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. This one is no exception! Good solid history written in a way in which someone who is not a historian can find very enjoyable. I love my academic reading but it is nice to listen to history now and again and not feel like you are plowing through a textbook. It is relaxing!

I was really looking forward to listening to this book because it sounded really interesting and I have an interest in Russian History. I could not even make make it through the first chapter. Way to preachy. The author, at least from what I was able to bear, thinks a little too highly of herself and drips arrogance.

Even if you suspend disbelief, it is still bad. I love a good mystery and am not above thinking that there are things we just can't explain currently. But, this book is just plain nutty. I could not finish it. It is clearly geared towards the really "out there" crowd.

With all the loose strings, I can't help but think this is a "set up" for a series of books. Which, if you like the story, is not necessarily a bad thing. I, however, did not like the story and found it weak and predictable. I keep buying King's books hoping that he will eventually write another that was worth reading. That hasn't happened. So, I think I will give up the hope that it will and save my money.
