Historia
How is it possible for the disciplines of cosmology, geology, anthropology, biology, and history to fit together? These 48 lectures answer that question by weaving a single story from accounts of the past developed by a variety of scholarly disciplines. The result is a story stretching from the origins of the universe to the present day and beyond, in which human history is seen as part of the history of our Earth and biosphere, and the Earth's history, in turn, is seen as part of the history of the universe.

A History Course Like None You've Ever Taken
- De Tommy D'Angelo en 02-05-17
(Woke-like) view of our universe from the Big Bang Theory to Modern times and a speculative prediction of the future .
Revisado: 09-08-24
I liked historical viewpoint from many academic areas of study, combined into one total view of history (although much was left out that would contradict some of the professors interpretations of this history) anyone with a fairly extensive academic background should pick up on the errors of omission that I believe are more intentional errors in order to paint a picture of the professors worldview. This is especially noticeable once Homo sapiens come on the scene. He stated that he would not be able to cover everything in this history, which gave him an out so that he could selectively present those topics that fit into his worldview. For instance he barely discusses any of the world Religions and their views on creation such as if there was an instantaneous big bang that created the beginning of the universe who created the big bang? is it some form of energy? Was it some super powerful force? Was it a God ? What then? Who then? Silence from the Professor. (Not long ago atheist scientists believed that the universe always was, and always will be, however the big bang refutes the atheists. There was a beginning and there will likely be an end according to current science so who/what set all of this precise complexity into motion?) Silence from the professor!
He also says women played an important role yet you have to look hard to see where gave examples of that!
He called earlier forms of human forced coercion a "Tribute" to the rulers yet called European use of forced coercion of humans "Slavery" without mentioning that slavery had existed for thousands of years, especially in Africa, and other regions of the world prior to the Europeans Involvement. All forms of slavery are evil no matter who takes away human freedoms yet the professor only called out the white Europeans .
My list of omissions could go on ad-nauseam but I'll leave it to the future readers to identify many many more. It won't be difficult to do.
However, I still highly recommend the book since it provides such good insight into big history

Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

Embellished and Hyperbolic yet informative
Revisado: 10-12-23
I found this to be an interesting story of corruption, greed and criminality at the highest levels in Russia. The money laundering and influence peddling by the Russians around the world was particularly well described The fact that Russian oligarchs and government officials are corrupt however is not new.
Where he lost credibility with me was in his repeated self inflation, egotistical view of his role as a world influencer. He also seemed to lose touch with reality toward the end of the book, where he repeatedly believed that President elect, and President Trump were out to get him on behalf of the Russians. Totally irrational and overly paranoid. He had what is often referred to as the Trump derangement syndrome! He made several predictions about Trumps motives, that never came true, or even close to being true. After reviewing his biography, and life story online, it all became clear that he was also a political hack and activist which he fails to tell you about, along with other interesting facts about his background. Although born in Colorado and attending college there, he denounced his US citizenship and moved to England and establish citizenship there. If you're interested, you gotta research his family history and read about why he did that. He likes to toot his own horn but my research shows he is not as pure in his actions as he'd like you to believe. He has a hidden agenda as far as I can see.

Good book but as an ex-psychology teacher the lessons were very basic and already understood by many people. However I still recommend the book as a review of these principles of communication and if you are curious about Mr Gowdy's Bio.

From the virus to the survival strategy too much fantasy for me
Revisado: 01-10-22
I guess if you’re a big lover fiction you may find this book somewhat entertaining. I like my books to be a little bit more realistic even if it’s fiction. As an ex-pilot and military survival school graduate most of the travel and survival decisions were not what you would be taught in a formal survival school. It is difficult to believe that so many things fell into place just by chance (A child prodigy, a doctor, a nurse, a vet, a professional baseball player, a professional pilot, and no one with any health issues after being exposed to the virus that kills the rest of the world, I wish I could only be 1/10 as lucky as tribe) the decision making which often was not good, but the results mostly were. But if you like a story where everything turns out well throughout the book this would be a book for you. Even the ending was a disappointment however it seems that everyone will live happily ever after in peace and harmony. All the worlds previous problems have magically disappeared. Too bad the coronavirus of 2020 and 21 is not producing the same result.

Too much romance, Not enough history
Revisado: 07-26-21
A good read but I was hoping for more historical descriptions of the Arab-Israeli conflict, which Wouk has built his writing reputation on in past novels. Houk spends approximately half his time writing about romantic relationships and marital affairs of Israeli military officers, If I want to read about that I will read a Harlequin romance. Houk presents the marital affairs as a normal part of a military officers life which is too far disconnected from reality in my experience as a retired US Air Force Officer. I wish he would have left these relationships in the background and focused on the historical political, social, and economic aspects of the formation of the Israeli state. I was seeking enlightenment from Houk and not a soap opera. It would have cut the length of the read by a significant amount. Otherwise it was a good story and I recommend the book to those who are interested in the topic of the Israeli State and can deal with the long romantic detours.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

This woman has more courage than just about any other author I have read.. she’s not afraid to speak the truth about her personal experiences and heartfelt beliefs in the endless possibilities and opportunities offered to all Americans. We will be hearing a lot more about her over the years to come.

Total Disconnect from reality
Revisado: 10-19-20
Left wing liberal fantasy- world story about male misogyny and Dominance over women in some futuristic society. It was such a looney concept that only readers who live in an alternate reality would be able to appreciate the disconnect between where we are now and where we are headed. I hated the book because I live in the real world and will not allow my thoughts and political views to be manipulated by left-leaning authors. I returned this book to audible for a refund because it was so bad I had to stop reading about 1/4 the way through.
If you don’t like dealing with the real world you may actually like this book!

Philisophical analysis of Western Reason/Morality
Revisado: 09-23-19
If you like a historical summary of western philosophy and Judaism you will love this book, although parts are a bit too deep philosophically for my liking. Read by Ben Shapiro so it moves along quickly. Will help the reader understand the case for moral reasoning and reality based thinking in modern times. Exposes the hypocrisy of today's progressive movement. Recommend.
