Historia
Raised in Dublin, Ireland, in a devoutly Catholic family, Rebecca Quin constantly invented new ways to make her mother worry—roughhousing with the neighborhood kids, hosting secret parties while her parents were away, enrolling in a warehouse wrestling school, nearly breaking her neck and almost kneecapping a WWE star before her own wrestling career even began—and she was always in search of a thrilling escape from the ordinary.

Good summary of her WWE run
Revisado: 11-17-24
Rebecca should be paid to read more audiobooks because she’s amazing at it.
The book itself is pretty shallow but it’s good nonetheless. She has a very cool life with all the ups and downs. I took out a star because she jumps a lot of info but I get it. I wish she would write more about NXT since that was literally her biggest developmental era.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

EXTRAORDINARY
Revisado: 05-29-24
This is the best Audible production I've ever heard. It's AMAZING. I sort of imagined the 1984 world when I read it but hearing it with music, voices and sounds......made it 10 times better. Can't say enough good things about it, just listen to it with headphones while sitting down and soak in the magic.

One of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bulls**t. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share. But we tend to take the situation for granted. Most people are rather confident of their ability to recognize bulls**t and to avoid being taken in by it. So the phenomenon has not aroused much deliberate concern. We have no clear understanding of what bulls**t is, why there is so much of it, or what functions it serves.

Pointless and boring
Revisado: 04-28-24
I constantly read and listen to philosophy, psychology and history books. Did a PhD also and still found this ultra boring and pointless. The author says he’s not going to spend time on definitions and spends half of the hour long book refuting a definition of “humbug” from another author…
San Harris book on lying is far more entertaining and informative.

This book discusses the struggles and importance of Carlos Gracie Jr. and the IBJJF in giving jiu-jitsu structure, shape, and professional credibility at a time where it was under threat of becoming simply another fad. The Rise and Evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also discusses the greatest challenges the art faces today, as its popularity carries with it problems that threaten to fragment precisely some of the qualities that set jiu-jitsu apart from other martial arts to begin with.

Best BJJ book ever made
Revisado: 04-22-24
Robert has made a masterpiece of a book for us geeky grapplers. Drysdale takes us through the history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu focusing on the story of Carlson Gracie since he was undoubtedly a pioneer of the art and a very interesting person overall. I train under a Carlson Gracie affiliate and was thrilled to read a book that brings to light all the stories I’ve been hearing throughout my bjj career, specially the BTT split. I’m now impartial in the matter and understand both sides as right and wrong.
As a history buff, I also appreciate the passion Robert brings into the subject since he also hives his own opinions on various topics and facts too since he’s also a living legend of bjj. The book also contains tons of interviews with legends from Carlson Jr. to Murilo Bustamante. Overall amazing book.

Historia
The growth of Christianity in the early centuries of the Common Era is one of the most extraordinary stories in world history. What began with a preaching day laborer and his dozen or so disciples soon grew to be the largest religion in the world, eventually taking over the entire Roman Empire. How did that happen? How was such a movement possible?

Required Listening
Revisado: 04-04-24
This was the single best audio course I’ve listened to on the topic of christianity.
I was raised catholic and went to catholic school from kindergarten to 12 grade so I know the tradition and story from the inside but not once was it taught in context of the real world where there were religions before, after and currently existing at the same time. Sure one knows they exist but as Dr. Ehrman points out, they are referred to as heresy or false religions.
This course teaches you about the pagan religions before christianity, how christianity was the first known religion to focus on evangelizing and exclusivity of worship and how christianity differs from Judaism, the historical Jesus etc…. The religion is broken down piece by piece and the beliefs and traditions are all analyzed by Dr. Ehrman in short bursts of pure information without requiring any faith.
Dr. Ehrman did a splendid job of providing the information in a sequence and in plain easy to understand language. His sense of humor and vas knowledge of religion in general made the experience engaging compared to his books read by other voice actors.
In conclusion I recommend this course to everyone living in a country where christianity is the dominant religion like the US. I can’t believe that to this day people actually think words in the bible are historically accurate, facts or the word of a God without knowing how Christianity came about.l and was basically created by man like any other religion. Again, Dr. Ehrman talks facts and history so it’s not a book bashing Christianity. He just shows how it cane about and how it took over the world.

Historia
The father of three sons, a journalist, and a Brookings Institution scholar, Richard V. Reeves has spent twenty-five years worrying about boys both at home and work. His new book, Of Boys and Men, tackles the complex and urgent crisis of boyhood and manhood. Reeves looks at the structural challenges that face boys and men and offers fresh and innovative solutions that turn the page on the corrosive narrative that plagues this issue. Of Boys and Men argues that helping the other half of society does not mean giving up on the ideal of gender equality.

Color me surprised
Revisado: 09-10-23
I'm a liberal therapist, father and husband. I constantly read feminist literature, support diversity non stop and know the disturbing statistics of male violence on women and children.
Why would I care about a book about struggling men? First of all, I do care about men and work with many men since I'm one of the few male therapists on my area. This book helped me understand and reminded me that men do struggle in other ways and I can care about many stuff at the same time (caring about women doesn't cancel caring about men). I also liked the balance in this book since it has conservative and liberal support. The author's recommendations are solid and his statistics too.
I took a star away because it's very heavy on facts and statistics (at least in the beginning). So hearing about how many men are in prison, the percentage of this and that gets tiring but I get the necessity. Overall is a good book!

The best Stoicism audio experience
Revisado: 06-27-23
This Course has it all. It's informative, keeps you engaged and it's very practical. Massimo is also a scientist and this detail helps a lot since he translates the stoic wisdom to the new world and discards what's not useful anymore. Some stoic purist still think that you have to believe in stoicism like a religion and that's not the case. Stoicism is practical! If stoicism doesn't help you live a better life, it's not for you or you're not practicing correctly. Luckily this course can get you on track to a better life.
Also...stoicism requires you to be involved in life and care about others. You can't use stoicism to shield yourself from emotions or to be a nasty person that discriminates and alienates others.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Amazing story
Revisado: 06-19-23
This is an amazing story of a kind hearted lawyer fighting against the racist system that still exists. My only problem with this audiobook is that this is a somber, sad and tough story to hear but the narrator is always upbeat and sound like he's reading a happy story. I still liked it but after watching the movie, I understood how sad this story is and how important is the fight against racism.

Classic psych 101 class
Revisado: 06-10-23
This book is a complete psychology 101 class. Literally the same I took in college years ago. It's a great overview of the field and I think it's the best introduction to psychology overall.
That said, it has its flaws (Overemphasizing the importance of genetics in behavior, too much time on old psychology like Freud, old social psychology and old behaviorism when the research moved on long ago and it's not covered. For example nothing is mentioned about the modern contextual science continues Skinner's radical behaviorism and the therapy methods derived from it like ACT, DBT among others are the most popular methods right now.)
It has it's strengths also like I said. It does a good job being an overview of psychology, a field that is divided in many pieces like social psychology, clinical psychology, industrial/organizational psychology etc...It's impossible to cover everything going on in psychology so I will give it a pass.

Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Existential time management
Revisado: 10-13-22
I'm at a point in my life where I feel stressed because of time. I work, raise a child, have a wife and studying full-time at a PhD program. I was looking for a time management book as most do when finding this one but how lucky am I that I found this one. As a psychologist I read a lot of existential therapy and philosophy but I'm a classic case of “The shoemaker's kids have no shoes!”. (Many therapists don't practice in their life what they preach.)
This book helped me integrate existentialism and philosophy into my life. I'm already cutting stuff out of my life that I've been doing for pride or recognition. Some goals I thought were important also were dropped. Still learning to live with a "Cosmic perspective" but I already feel less stressed and anxious. Now I will red Neil deGrasse Tyson's new book on the Cosmic Perspective " The Starry Messenger" to double down.
