Historia
Hungry darkness, haunted guns, tunnels that move like snakes—the crystal mines of Medicine Rocks, Montana, are a place only the bravest and greediest dare. Discovered in 1866, the miraculous rock known as crystal quickly rose to become the most expensive substance on the planet, driving thousands to break the treaties and invade the sacred buffalo lands of the Sioux. But mining crystal risks more than an arrow in the chest. The beautiful rock has a voice of its own. A voice that twists minds and calls unnatural powers. A voice that turns men into monsters.

Story is enjoyable and well-told. Narrator is a bit monotone and adds nothing to the reading.

Not bad. But not great.
Revisado: 12-21-22
Love PC’s other works. This felt rushed and not fully flushed out. Too many moments of disbelief regarding their circumstances and the chase. The narrator is average, with no real emotion and little inflection. Like he was reading a book, not performing a story. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I wouldn’t warn against it either.

It’s just kinda dull. Definitely not what you expect from MJS. I made it to 4 hours left and just stopped. Narrator is just okay and adds nothing to the book.

Historia
"The Lottery," one of the most terrifying stories of the twentieth century, created a sensation when it was first published in the New Yorker. "Powerful and haunting," and "nights of unrest" were typical reader responses. This collection, the only one to appear during Jackson's lifetime, unites "The Lottery" with 24 equally unusual stories. Together they demonstrate her remarkable range - from the hilarious to the truly horrible - and power as a storyteller.

Feels unfinished
Revisado: 05-05-21
If you like compelling stories, this is for you. If you like closure, maybe it’s not for you. Each story feels about 80% complete, the narrative building until you think, “Oh, that’s odd...”, then just ending. No explanations, no closure. Just well written stories that leave you wondering what just happened and why.

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Just as you’d imagine
Revisado: 01-08-21
Full of Florida stereotypes, foul language, drug use, sex, and humor. Story has very little plot, but it was quite a fun listen. No redeeming quality, so don’t expect any sort of plot or character arc. Simply a guilty pleasure. RC Bray is fantastic. I recommend it.

Great story, lackluster narration
Revisado: 12-31-20
The story itself was quite enjoyable, but the narrator nearly killed it. He was drab and wholly lacking any excitement or emotion. His voices were passable at best. I recommend reading the book, not listening to it.

Glad I stuck with it!
Revisado: 08-09-20
I almost didn’t continue the series after the first book, as I thought some of the major ideas a bit shallow. I enjoy Nick Podehl, and there were some high points, so I decided to continue. I’m SO glad I did. Things begin to fall in line, and the action and intrigue really held my attention. Combined with great twists, I thoroughly enjoyed book 2. On to book 3 now!

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Typical
Revisado: 09-15-19
Another great SK story. I have been a fan my whole life and appreciate the way his narrative has grown over the years. Santino Fontana was okay at best, but did not ruin the story. He did not sound like a ‘professional’, rather someone you’d hear down at the public library reading to kids.
