Substantive content was lost somewhere; too nasty

Disliked that the substance of this couple’s story was already well portrayed in part two of the series. Part three was very anticlimactic because it had little substance, and it was so predictable … three lines of narrative followed by two. I’ve just sex for sex’s sake. I guess just to fill up the spaces, there was just sex sex sex Which began to show up just plain nasty. I could not finish the book because my literary intelligence is insulted by this one. I am so disappointed because Kennedy Ryan generally does not miss the mark at this level.

Old fashioned tenderness

Liked all of the characters who were unique, one from the other. The story plot was very interesting. I’m quite sure that it has been the case in families with many children of one gender, or the other, as they tried to get a mixture or at least one birth of the other gender. This was, then, a very realistic plot.

The stories in the series are very well written. However, I have chosen after two in the series not to listen to anymore. I will also ask Audible to return my credits to me. I am not necessarily a very conservative person. However, I am realistic that, with the exception of some other books containing paranormal content, I cannot contentiously enjoy a book that has criminal elements in which I myself would neither sanction nor commit. I am referring to the murders. I can’t sanction it. I’m sad because I believe other consequences could have been severe enough to titillate our senses for entertainment. But not people who are such good strong men to then just commit murder. You are a gifted author, and I believe that you are so talented you can be more creative than just murder. Actually for me that made the story unrealistic, at which point I had to back away from the setting. I won’t say more. I’m done.

She is a baaaad ass!

She recovered from trying to please her family and everyone else. She began to accept herself as she was and to know that she was fit and worthy as she was. I loved Ahmad. He was so patient and consistently supported her. He not only loved her the way he knew best; he considered her as a beautiful person and loved her just the way she needed a man to do so.

A very real story portraying the real life and doing it perfectly well.

I liked that the story was culturally responsive. It talked about all of the social emotional problems that African-American people face as individuals and in relationships. Then it portrayed the best examples of having a good posse to lean on in two forms: friendship and professional counseling. so often African-American men do not seek mental health interventions, but benefit whenever they do. The love between Yasmin and Josiah was so intense. The resolution that they thought could have been either way, to stay divorced and never get back together or do the way they chose. I love all of the family support they had from her mother. I love even more that they were able to recall wisdom from his aunt although she was passed on. They reunited not only for their children, but for the strength that was within their own unit. I’m glad that they were each humble enough to admit and own, their own messes and mistakes. I’m glad that they were each humble enough to forgive one another in time. I can’t say enough about how important a story this book contains. I will suggest it to a lot of people.

A very hard decision that some women make when it is ever too late

The realism of how the husband was portrayed in his abuse and the turmoil they both suffered are compellingly portrayed. How confused his wife became at first, albeit while she knew the truth and was trying to be strong.
She was a second generation woman in this awful scheme of life. She was smart, she was weak. She was a corporate businesswoman, she was a porn in her husband’s hands. He was sweet, he was mean. He was kind, he was selfish. He was remorseful, he was arrogant. He was sorry, he meant to do her harm and to hurt her badly. He blamed her and lied to her in an attempt to get her to be complicit in his lies. He pushed her down the stairs, but no, she accidentally fell. He wanted the truth about her tattoo, but he actually tried to bite the thing off. We could reasonably anticipate that he might eventually kill her and say she made him do it; and could we ever be sure that he would not also eventually hurt the baby?! this author was bold enough to show domestic abuse the way it often happens in real life. The story held me somewhat spellbound because I was scared of how it would end. This was not ever fiction as I begin to read it. I just knew it was somebody’s real life story. I hope they are healthy now and living their best life.

The hardest decision of a lifetime took guts to make.

I love fictional stories with a truly real situation all the way through. There were three main characters. All the other characters were also important. What they brought to the story was deeply meaningful, each in their own capacity. For the woman and men involved, they were each loving people. The decision she made ultimately came from a place of deep respect and appreciation for the love Herman brought. More than any other book I believe that I read, she showed high emotional intellect. Her emotions were so very deep, intense, and often painful; yet the decision she made was not based solely on those emotional feelings. I truly believe that she made the very best decision in staying with Sam and not returning to Jesse. Both men wanted what they wanted and they wanted her. their feelings were genuine, but genuineness not withstanding, Jesse‘s feelings were more selfish. Although Sam fought for Jesse at last, and his feelings may have seemed to be selfish, he appeared to have the guts to fight for what he thought was best for her as well. He understood better. The woman she had become and the experiences that would be more fulfilling to her needs. What she had with Jesse was real, and few people ever experience the depth of love that they shared. But their time passed. It just wasn’t meant to be permanent. No matter how beautiful and marvelous a relationship may seem to be, some people come into our lives for a reason, some for a season, but only a few are meant to stay and walk with us through a lifetime. Sam came to realize that he was her present and her future. He was her lifetime. And she was his.
