Historia
Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives at the idyllic getaway, she’s pleased to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells—and he’s eager to introduce her to his easygoing way of life. But there are things Grace discovers that she’s not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn’t right with the ranch.

A slow burn, but a fun ending
Revisado: 05-26-23
I found this book in a Facebook group for people who love Thrillers. People were saying things like "I just finished the book and I am shook" and "What did I just read?". I had to see what all the hype was about.
I wish I could say I loved this book, and while it was an easy, fast read...it was a slow burn. I felt as though I was reading a romance novel for three quarters of the story, and that is just not my jam. The basic synopsis of the story is that there is a a woman in an "Eat, Pray, Love" scenario who travels alone to a remote air bnb and meets the handsome man that owns the ranch and begins a vacation romance. However it doesn't take long for her to realize things may not be as idyllic as it seems, her host Calvin may have secrets, and the police show up looking for a missing woman.
The story itself is pretty basic, and at times predicable. However there were moments, especially the last few chapters that had me unable to put the book down. Overall had the entire book been that way it would be an easy 5/5 stars, but the long drawn out road to get there really hurt my experience and enjoyment of the climax.
I liked the ending, I don't know if I would recommend spending an audible credit on it, but if the book was on sale it is worth a look.

Historia
A small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it's only when town pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full extent of the killer's twisted work becomes clear. Sara's ex-husband, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation - a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later.

Graphic and uncomfortable
Revisado: 07-14-22
If you have read anything by Karin Slaughter the words “graphic” and “uncomfortable” should be pretty standard. All Slaughter books need a disclaimer that people will be raped and killed, and the descriptions of people being hurt are in this case presented in a way that the perpetrator was loving them. It was hard to finish.
However the characters of Sarah and Jeffrey are so wonderfully thought out that you simply want to see where they will end up. If you can stomach the crimes, this is a good read.

Fun for all ages
Revisado: 07-07-22
I LOVE this series. I collect children and young adult books that have spooky themes, and this is one of my favorite. Jason Segel did an amazing job taking a common reoccurring trope and putting a new and fun spin on it, to make the nightmares less scary.
My daughter is almost 7, I bought the audiobook and we listen to it in the car. She loves it so far and asks all the time to listen to the Nightmare story.

A Fun Sci-Fi Adventure.
Revisado: 07-07-22
I really enjoy all of Jason's Segel's books, while he intends them for people much younger than myself. I find his books really enjoyable.
I can't say the concept of this is new, it is actually very similar to Ready Player Two in a lot of ways, but the story keeps moving and has some fun, unexpected stops along the way.

This one just fell flat...
Revisado: 07-06-22
I love Karin Slaughter, I have read almost all of her books, however this one fell a little flat for me. The overall theme is the idea that before your parents became parents, they had their own lives and some of those lives are surprising. The premise was interesting, but after the first quarter of the book the action seems to creep along, and the characters mostly annoyed me. I don't think I have ever given Slaughter less than 5 stars, but this one just didn't quite do it for me. Kathleen Early is always a great narrator.

If you have never read Karin Slaughter, this in many ways is a good test for you. This book is full of sex Crimea, pedophilea and murder, but it is not nearly as graphic as the novels that follows.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Not sure what I was expecting...
Revisado: 01-08-19
I am not sure what I was looking for with this audiobook, I suppose I figured they would actually land on a reason for her suicide. At the end of it all, she was a person who was sad, and I believe being bullied pushed her over the edge. However, this book gives you several theories and red herrings and in end no conclusions.

How can you not love her?
Revisado: 07-22-18
I want to preface this by saying, I was never that fan girl that followed Anna Faris or Chris Pratt. Sure, I had seen the Scary Movie franchise and several of her movies, but I had never seen mom and didn't even know who Chris Pratt was before Jurassic World. I am simply someone who enjoys stories especially when they are told by the person who experienced them. I collect first edition books, and was lucky enough to find one that Anna had signed and couldn't not pick this book up...and I am so glad that I did. I started reading the book and decided I liked Anna's spirit so much I wanted her to tell me her story like an old friend, so i bought the audiobook. Way to go Faris, you got my money twice!
For anyone looking for a book full of the details of her marriage or perhaps the dissolution of it, first of all shame on you, and second you won't find that here. You will find her talk about her college life, her first marriage, for those fan girls you will hear how she and Chris met and the occasional story of their life together which will probably make you love him even more; most importantly this book is full of honesty about being insecure in your twenties, and slightly less insecure in your thirties, you will get honest answers for who Anna is, what she finds important in life. Listening to her tell me her stories, for six hours I felt like her best friend, i found her charming and funny, and sometimes I wanted to give her a hug. I could relate to Anna's mom struggles and fears of raising a responsible and kind human being, and while our socioeconmic status in life is vastly different and I am lucky enough to take my daughter out without prying eye I could still understand her position on these things and how she feels and that is a very refreshing change.
Although this book was about to be released when their marriage was ending, Chris Pratt has a beautiful introduction and Anna is a class act through out the book highlighting what a great friendship and marriage they shared. In the end, she acknowledges that a door has closed and new time in her life has begun but she never says anything negative. Anna praises Chris and the rise of his career, saying she always knew he would be the star he is. The only thing I wish for her is that she would give herself a little more credit; she has played some great roles and after starting her book I tried her show mom and she is very funny. In this book she is very modest and I hope she reads this someday and sees that not everyone sees her character in Mom as "not sexy". The future holds great things both of these actors and the class they have shown in public, and in this book.
If you are interested in biographies, or interested in the life of public figures you will enjoy this book, and allow Anna to be your friend for a short while. For other reviews by me, please see my review blog : https://alishiamarie.weebly.com/
