Historia
Margaret Atwood's classic novel, The Handmaid's Tale, is about the future. Now, in Oryx and Crake, the future has changed: it's much worse. The narrator of this riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he's sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death.

I'll listen to anything read by John Chancer
Revisado: 11-06-12
As a Margaret Atwood fan, it was a double whammy to discover it read by another favorite, John Cancer. His warm voice kept me in my seat.

What world does she live in??
Revisado: 10-20-11
I saw this book on the shelf of a frened who reads voraciously and picked it up. The story seems to be set in current times, dealing with coming out as homosexual later in life, and then the quest for a same sex couple to have a baby.
Where did the author get her research? From a cereal packet? The problems the couple face have zero depth and predictable as to be unbelieveable in today's world. My partner was treated to several loud exclamations during the book as in," Oh you have to be kidding," even guessing the next plot line before it happens.
Makes every lesbian I know cringe.
The song sung at the beginning of each chapter in a whiny minor key had me clawing the walls to get out.

Sethe was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free. Sethe has too many memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. And Sethe’s new home is haunted by the ghost of her baby, who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved.

Very satisfying and just like the movie
Revisado: 10-20-11
I saw the movie so long ago, but it came back in full color when listening to this story, performed by the author.
Listening to toni's soft and measured voice was pleasant and she brought through many nuances.
I am going back for more of her stories.
