Interesting challenge to the status quo
Revisado: 08-16-24
Well done. I don't believe things are as black-and-white as the author, but this is a great challenge to the status quo and why the younger generations are leaving the church. Thanks.

Historia
Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear. It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"

Historia
If you cut off a spider's leg, it's crippled; if you cut off its head, it dies. But if you cut off a starfish's leg it grows a new one, and the old leg can grow into an entirely new starfish. The Starfish and the Spider argues that organizations fall into two categories: "spiders", which have a rigid hierarchy, and "starfish", which rely on the power of peer relationships.

Well done and to the point. I appreciated how this book got me thinking. They cover the gray areas and hybrid ideas, too. This is a great read to help you understand the concepts and generate your own ideas. I will probably listen again!

Historia
There are four characters in every story: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characters live inside us. If we play the victim, we’re doomed to fail. If we play the villain, we will not create genuine bonds. But if we play the hero or guide, our lives will flourish. The hard part is being self-aware enough to know which character we are playing. In this book, Donald will use his own experiences to help you recognize if the character you are currently surfacing is helping you experience a life of meaning.

Creative and thoughtful
Revisado: 08-04-22
I'm grateful for this book and the way Donald Miller thinks about how we lead ourselves. This is a very compelling approach to taking responsibility for our lives and our level of success. Much of what we become is bound by where and when we're born and how we're raised, But the author makes a great case for the parts of our story we control. We can manage our perception of ourselves, and when we do, our identity drives our daily actions and impacts our destiny more than we think. This book is a great reminder there is always something we can do. We have a choice in how meaningful our lives will be.

Great Stories to Encourage You in Your Calling
Revisado: 12-27-21
Jim and Martha do a great job of compiling stories from a variety of people. They weave a great story of ways God intervenes in the lives of everyday believers and uses us to make a difference in the ordinary everday of work. They begin with their own story, and then add many others, each told by the person or persons who were involved. And Martha's dad, Ted's story is also interwoven into the book. It will encourage you and challenge you. You'll learn about other ministries and other individuals and how God has used, or is using them right now. Check this out!

Encouraging and Challenging
Revisado: 03-20-20
Nona's story will stretch you. She's been through quite a bit and achieved great success, but it all came with a high price tag. She's an inspiration. Her story hurts in places and she's very transparent. At the same time, her life challenges you to make the most of your circumstances and to make a positive difference in response to everything that happens. This book will get your attention in every area where you might think of yourself as a victim. Highly recommended.

Enjoyablle and Energizing Approach
Revisado: 03-20-20
I enjoyed this audiobook and will listen again. The author has had a series of fortunate experiences and he has taken everything to the next level. His vision of being "for" our customers or our constituents is energizing and exciting. His approach will challenge you to apply an excellent, others-first mentality to everything you do. I'm energized and looking for ways to apply the things I heard.

Historia
Finite games, like football or chess, have known players, fixed rules, and a clear endpoint. The winners and losers are easily identified. Infinite games, games with no finish line, like business or politics, or life itself, have players who come and go. The rules of an infinite game are changeable, while infinite games have no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers - only ahead and behind. The question is, how do we play to succeed in the game we’re in? In this revelatory new audiobook, Simon Sinek offers a framework for leading with an infinite mindset.

Wonderful, engaging and challenging
Revisado: 02-12-20
Well done book about how finite and limited our vision can be. I feel like I've lived in this world for a while and the author contrasts the two ends of this spectrum clearly and with compelling stories. He also has some great ideas or reminders for how to avoid falling back into a finite game. I listened on audio and enjoyed it so much, I'll probably get a Kindle version that I can mark up.

Jesus said his followers would be a light to the world and a city on a hill - a warmly inviting, neighbor-loving, grace-and-truth filled destination for all. He envisioned his followers as life-giving neighbors, bosses, employees, and friends, the kind of people who return even insults with kindness and persecution with prayers. Irresistible Faith is a blueprint for pursuing this vision in our current moment, of redeemed individuals and a renewed community working for a restored world.

This is a great book that challenges our thoughts about our faith. He has a great section toward the end about how our faith intersects and transforms our work. I hope we will let this book inform us and change the way we take our faith into the world. Very thought-provoking!

Comprehensive and Interesting
Revisado: 01-14-20
This is a comprehensive and very well thought-out book about how to say things right the first time. It was very helpful and I will probably listen again. Toward the end, the variety of situations covered gets into some extreme situations that often don't apply. But more than anything else, I need to remember the 7 Principles, which are key and worth the price of admission. Highly recommended to anyone for those principles alone.
