Historia
Jacky Faber, having been called a pirate and had a price put on her head by the King of England, has no choice but to stay out of sight. Hoping for a safe hiding place, she returns to the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston, but the calm doesn't last long. On a class field trip to Boston Harbor, the girls are abducted and forced into the hold of the Bloodhound, a ship bound for the slave markets on the Barbary Coast where they will be put up on the auction block and sold into Arab harems.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to almost anyone! Great story, great characters and plot and an amazing narration!
Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?
Kethy simply performs all characters well. Very believable and makes it extremely easy to follow any conversation.
Any additional comments?
My wife and I enjoyed this book as much as the rest of the family! This book is great for both boys and girls, and the whole series has been great at demonstrating good and bad and consequences of making decisions. Irregardless of how well intentioned the decisions were.
Although extremely fun and entertaining, there is considerable value in the messages it sends too:
(1) Consider your options carefully using your critical thinking skills before making a decision. Then be willing to accept the consequences if things do not work out as desired or expected. This idea alone is refreshing. Jackie has never shied away from chastisement and has always stood behind and tried to help those around her, especially anyone in need. She often gives everyone the benefit of the doubt.
(2) It also nicely demonstrates that although issues are sometimes different, Jackie is able to not only succeed but to successfully stand-out in performing her duties and working alongside boys and men. Especially given the time-frame in which the stories take place, women had very few legal rights and very specific, albeit limited expectations. Still she rises up and demonstrates her abilities and willingness to overcome all obstacles. Lessons such as these are good for everyone of all ages and sexes.

Excellent choice ... Good continuation of Saga

Where does The Woman Who Rides Like a Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is simply another great book by Tamora Pierce. She knows what readers want. A fun, exciting, involving story. As with the other two in the series, it touches on issues of growing up, various emotions and making wise choices that are handled outstandingly also making it excellent for all ages.
It is written in such a way that you could start with this series, written after Lady Knight. Since this is filling in the back-story of characters in those books you would not miss a thing or be lost in any way. In fact, it could be argued as a good place to start, since you would then understand more going into the other series.
My only criticism, and it is NOT about the stories themselves, but the naming of the books. It is difficult sometimes to make sure you are starting with the first book in a series without some hunting around. Audible needs to better describe which book is which in a series.
What did you like best about this story?
The story flows well and has enough of everything to keep the whole family interested and at all age levels. You have Love, Action & Adventure, Romance, Exciting fight scenes, Magic and plenty of Humour throughout.
Have you listened to any of Trini Alvarado’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The reader Trini Alvarado is again outstanding in her performance in this series. Between the writing and the performance you swear you are listening to your own daughter talking sometimes.
Any additional comments?
Our family... parents, boys and girls rank this as a must read and guaranteed fun and enjoyment for everyone.
