Historia
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

It’s silly nonsense
Revisado: 05-04-24
Let’s be clear, this is not well written. High brow fantasy this is not. But it’s fun! Like actual fun! Remember fun? It’s that feeling you had when you were 10 and your Ninja Turtle costume is the coolest one in the group as you sneak up to the neighborhood haunted house.
And if that very silly very specific description is your thing, this book is DEFINITELY for you.

Historia
Peter Frase argues that increasing automation and a growing scarcity of resources, thanks to climate change, will bring it all tumbling down. In Four Futures, Frase imagines how this postcapitalist world might look, deploying the tools of both social science and speculative fiction to explore what communism, rentism, socialism, and exterminism might actually entail.

Am interesting thought experiment
Revisado: 04-11-24
This was quick, so I gave it a listen. It was a fun thought experiment and I liked it. It is, as the author admits, fanciful and metaphorical more than literal. That means he was able to tie it back to where we are now. Very compelling.

I had fun
Revisado: 09-21-23
So this isn’t the best written fantasy. But it wasn’t actively bad. It was fun. Part of this was the two main characters (Pan and Cam) have names that sound very similar.
The end dragged out a bit, but it is very clear it is acting as world-building and the first part of a series. I’ll be getting another of his books, so take that for what it is.

Historia
"A Tale of Two Cities" is a novel by Charles Dickens. The novel depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution, the corresponding brutality demonstrated by the revolutionaries toward the former aristocrats in the early years of the revolution, and many unflattering social parallels with life in London during the same time period. It follows the lives of several protagonists through these events.

BAD AUDIO
Revisado: 03-06-19
A Tale of Two Cities is mandatory reading for any person. But this recording was so bad I’ve had trouble getting through it. Both from the choice of narrator and the technical aspects.
The narrator does not put enough differentiation between the characters, making it hard to tell what is going on. He also has pacing issues, and I’ve had to go back to make sure I don’t miss anything. His voice is also raspy, and this makes it hard on the ear.
The pacing issues could partially heave been fixed by editing, but a few things in the audio lead me to believe that this was not a digital recording. There’s a rough quality to the sound at times. This leads me to believe that this was a conversion from a cd or analog recording to a digital file.
I got this file on sale, and I guess you get what you pay for. But spring a few extra bucks for a better recording.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Very informative
Revisado: 03-05-19
Her perspective on racism and the complicity of even “woke” white people is very informative. The format of an audiobook is a good one, as it allows the listener to go at their own pace.
To the technical standpoint to reader was pleasant and her voice is clear and easy to understand. There was no clipping or buzzing to the audio.

Meandering
Revisado: 01-26-15
While I enjoy the series and I understand that the stories presented were needed to tie the previous and the following book together it didn't seem to accomplish much. The story meandered and did little than to provide an update on what was going on. Nothing really happened and nothing really changes. Just a glimpse at what is coming. The weakest book in the series.
