Historia
As an old house is demolished in a gentrifying section of London, a workman discovers a tiny skeleton, buried for years. For journalist Kate Waters, it's a story that deserves attention. She cobbles together a piece for her newspaper, but at a loss for answers, she can only pose a question: Who is the Building Site Baby? As Kate investigates, she unearths connections to a crime that rocked the city decades earlier: A newborn baby was stolen from the maternity ward in a local hospital and was never found.

LOVED THIS STORY! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Revisado: 10-23-17
I don't want to give anything away. This story will leave you breathless and perhaps sweetly sad. There are disgusting events and people but the lovely ones shine through.

Historia
You have never met an (ex) FBI agent like Brigid Quinn Brigid’s career - the disappearance and presumed murder of her young protégée, Jessica. Floyd knows things about that terrible night that were never made public, and offers to lead the cops to Jessica's body in return for a plea bargain. It should finally be the end of a dark chapter in Brigid’s life. Except…the new FBI agent on the case, Laura Coleman, thinks the confession is fake, and Brigid finds she cannot walk away from violence and retribution after all.

Great story with strong OLDER WOMAN as lead
Revisado: 04-10-17
I always rate books but only post reviews on the ones that grab me. This story grabbed and held on tight! As an "older woman" (how did that happen so fast?) I really enjoyed the strong and very capable 59-year-old lead character.

Required Reading!
Revisado: 01-27-17
This book struck me to be as necessary to our current racial strife as Uncle Tom's Cabin was to the abolition of slavery. If millions of people would read it with open minds and hearts the world WOULD change!

When the grand dame of Ashville passes away, Mrs. Brown is called upon to inventory her estate and comes across a dress that changes everything. She must have it. And so Mrs. Brown begins her odyssey to purchase the dress.

Wonderful, heart-warming story
Revisado: 10-12-16
Mrs. Brown was just who I needed to spend some time with these last few days. I sometimes wonder if there are many Mrs. Browns left in this crazy world.
Mrs. Brown is a really good book and I LOVED IT. The writing is flowing and elegant. Perhaps a softer narration for the audio book would have suited it better.
The ending took my breath away because I could have had the same permanent heartbreak; both of my sons served alongside "hers" at that same time.
This is the first time I've enjoyed and respected a book enough to write a review rather than just submit a rating. READ Mrs. Brown and savor the feeling that will remain in your heart.

Historia
Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

They just keep getting better
Revisado: 11-17-15
The most suspenseful book yet. The "main" story was interesting but the continuing plot of corruption and atrempt to destroy Gamache is wonderful. I love the Chief Inspector and how he cares so much for his friends, agents, his family, and especially Reine-Marie.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is on break from duty in Three Pines to attend the famed Winter Carnival up north. He has arrived in this beautiful, freezing city not to join the revels but to recover from an investigation gone hauntingly wrong. Still, violent death is inescapable—even here, in the apparent sanctuary of the Literary and Historical Society, where one obsessive academic’s quest for answers will lead Gamache down a dark path.

Best Gamache yet!
Revisado: 10-28-15
To me the main story was not the "current" murder, but the tragedy involving Moran. This was much more interesting than story lines of prior books. Having two other story lines intertwined made this a really good book.
