Great info for anyone in a leadership role
Revisado: 03-23-25
I thought there was a ton of good info for leadership and just generally for life in this book. As with most self help type books, this is probably better in print so you can highlight important or lightbulb ideas and refer back to them. But I appreciated being able to listen to it because I’m not one to sit down and read, but I am an avid audiobook listener.
I love the idea of the emotional journal and the emotional intelligence quiz, and I am happy that those are available online.
Throughout the book, I was thinking of how I can apply these principles in my life. I don’t lead a team. I have no direct reports. But I do oversee others in my job - just not as a manager. I deal with people everyday as most people do. And I have kids that I manage. 😆. I appreciated the chapter toward the end about using the Everyday Diplomat strategies in families and everyday life. There are so many good ideas for resolving conflict, making connections, and dealing with people who are different than you. I really liked the chapter about the different generations and tips on how to use their strengths to everyone’s advantage.
I loved the quick review at the end of each chapter. It was like going back over my highlighted sentences and reminding me of the important points.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who leads a team of any sort. I really enjoyed all the personal stories, but I think those with a military background will especially enjoy hearing Michael’s stories about his time in the military. They will have that special connection of having lived through similar circumstances and will surely connect on a deeper level with his experiences. Great book!

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Super cute and fun listen
Revisado: 08-06-21
Predictable, but so cute! I loved listening to this story. Phillippa Soo is amazing as a narrator. It made me think that all narrators should be actors. It would make the stories so much more entertaining if they were all as good as her. The book kept me wanting to listen. I could predict the main storyline, but I still couldn’t stop listening. Loved it!

Listened twice
Revisado: 03-04-19
This wasn’t my favorite Mary Burton book, but I was so taken by surprise at the conclusion of this book that I ended up listening to it again so I could listen for the details and hints once I knew the outcome!

Historia
Ellen O’Farrell is a professional hypnotherapist who works out of the eccentric beachfront home she inherited from her grandparents. It’s a nice life, except for her tumultuous relationship history. She’s stoic about it, but at this point, Ellen wouldn’t mind a lasting one. When she meets Patrick, she’s optimistic. He’s attractive, single, employed, and best of all, he seems to like her back. Then comes that dreaded moment: He thinks they should have a talk. Braced for the worst, Ellen is pleasantly surprised.

Fun story
Revisado: 09-13-18
This book was a fun read, but not as exciting and catchy as the other books I’ve read by Liane Moriarty. It was more predictable with little climax.
